William Banks Scudder
William Banks Scudder passed away Monday, June 1, 2026, in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the age of 25.
Banks was a compassionate, diligent, dependable, and selfless son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was most known for his big heart. He showed unwavering compassion and sacrifice to his family and friends. Whether it was helping fix a broken-down car, paying for a friend's meal, or simply being there to listen and offer support, he never failed to give what he had. He was a solid friend, someone you could always count on, and he always led with an open, giving heart. Sensitive and deeply perceptive, he had a rare ability to read people with genuine care and understanding. He was an intelligent, thoughtful, and kind young man who found joy in life's simple pleasures.
Born on April 20, 2001, at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, Banks was the son of William Tod Scudder and Virginia Mangas Scudder. He was mechanically minded and could fix just about anything with a motor. He pursued this passion by graduating from Wake Technical Community College with two associate degrees in Heavy Equipment Technology and working as a heavy equipment mechanic with Gregory Poole Equipment Company.
His prized possession was his Toyota Tacoma, which he proudly inherited from his grandfather of the same name when he received his driver's license. He loved rebuilding and outfitting his truck and taking it off-roading. Beyond the truck, he had a wide range of passions that kept him moving and outdoors: four wheeling, dirt biking, skateboarding, roller skating, and cycling. He also loved working alongside his dad on construction projects, cars, and the boat, and he cherished those hands-on hours spent building and fixing things together. And in the quiet moments, he was the kind of person who would stop mid-stride to search the grass for a four-leaf clover.
Banks was an active member of FFA during his time at Millbrook High School, where he had a goal of taking every agriculture class offered. He competed in many competitions, earned his FFA State Degree, and was recognized as the Most Active Senior in the Agricultural Department in 2019. He was also a dedicated member of the cross country and track teams throughout all four years of high school. He was known for being deeply committed to the things he truly cared about.
He had a great love for cats and shared his home with his beloved kitty, Styx. He also had a fondness for collecting ballcaps, each one a small token of the life and adventures he built for himself.
His death was sudden, and the loss felt by his family and those who knew him is immeasurable.
Banks is survived by his parents, William Tod Scudder and Virginia Mangas Scudder; his brother, Nickolas Grant Scudder; his sister, Mary Gwendolyn Scudder; his niece, Willow; and his beloved cat, Styx.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Banks touched are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27615.
Banks will be remembered for his generous spirit, his willingness to help others, and the big heart he shared so freely with those around him.

I wish I had the opportunity in person to thank Banks for encouraging my daughter, Samantha, in her final moments on 9-22-18. I am glad I was able to meet his family & hear so many stories of the every day moments of his life that made him so special. I will carry his memory in my heart. My prayer is for the family to feel the peace, love & encouragement of God while they navigate their grief. Please know that your beloved Banks is always with you.

I am sorry for your loss. I was friends with Banks as a little kid in kindergarten. I remember one time he got a tick on his back at recess and the teacher had to take it off him and he went red in the face because he was so upset. I didn't know about ticks yet at that age, so since then whenever I thought of ticks I thought of Banks. Other than that one all of my memories with Banks were happy ones. I am very sad that he is gone.

I didn't know Banks for long, and mostly just through work. But when i started here with no idea on what to do, he stepped up. He had no problem coming to me and asking if i needed anything and offering to help in any way he could. i loved when he'd come down to my wash pit and talk, about anything. whatever might've been bothering us, our weekend plans, our favorite foods. It was always so easy to talk with him and it's those small impactful moments that i'll miss the most. We'd joke about the piercings i got when i worked there, and how they kept allowing it... i've gotten another 2 since he's passed and it's pained me that i can't joke with him about it. it might seem silly and simple, but it was the tiny things that stuck out the most with Banks. i'll always miss teasing him for drinking his coke at the resturant before whoever would even come and take our orders. i loved when he'd show me the cool stuff on his instagram when we'd sit in the back of Lonni's car. He was the type of person i truly wanted to keep in touch with no matter what. i hope up there he's happier and calmer, drinking his cokes like a maniac and tearin up the place in his tacoma. You'll always be missed and remembered Banks, i promise.

The Triplets and my family grew up together. We had so many memories, from patrolling the neighborhood to seeing them all grow up and move on. Banks was such a funny and caring person who would back you up no matter what. We miss you bud!

I am heartbroken to hear of Banks' passing. Though we did not really cross paths in high school, I cannot imagine the grief this family is experiencing for the loss of such a wonderful young man with a kind soul. Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. Banks will be missed endlessly.

Thinking of Banks makes me smile because of his kindness, thoughtful conversations and deep commitment to those he loves. This vibrancy he brought into the world will remain with us because he touched the lives of those around him. Time with him was far too short, but the love and memories we have been given keep him with us always.
