Stephen Welborn Agori
Sergeant Stephen Welborn Agori came into this world on Christmas Day, 1950, born in Ibadan, Nigeria to George Agori and Lucy Blokrudo. The family later made their home in Lagos, and it was there that Stephen grew into the man he would become. He left this world on May 20, 2026, at 75 years old, and the people he leaves behind know exactly how loved they were.
Stephen served in the Nigerian Army, working at the Military Hospital at Myhoung Barracks in Yaba. Outside his military service, tennis was his passion, and retirement only gave him more room for it. He spent those years coaching, showing up for his players the same way he showed up for everyone in his life.
Faith was the quiet thread running through everything Stephen did. He did not just believe it; he lived it, in the way he treated people, in the home he built, and especially in the way he raised his children. He was a father who led with love and compassion, and his children grew up knowing both.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mrs. Christiana A. Agori; his children, Mrs. Timinepre Florence Odutayo, John Prebi Agori, Patrick Abiono Agori, Monica Folashade Adegoke, Andrew Olanrewaju Agori, and Binaware Agori Omotosho; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who carry a piece of him with them.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Renaissance Funeral Home and Crematory, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC. On Friday, June 19, family and friends are invited to gather at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church for a visitation at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.

Haven't known you for long, but after celebrating Christmas with you about a year ago, it felt like I've known you forever. You schooled me on Nigerian political history and economic evolution like your son. It was a wonderful moment, and I will never forget it. My heart is broken as we lost a kind gentleman, but Stephen is in a happier place now. I have fond memories of him like the time I found out he was a great tennis player. Tommy and I asked Stephen and John to play doubles one day. It was great fun as you could hear John and Stephen's laughter at each play. When I played usta night matches Stephen would walk me to my car and ask " how did you play?" He always had a positive response. I will forever be grateful. Tommy and I was so proud of Stephen when he got his us citizenship. Stephen was proud of himself with his eyes and smile so big. Every time I would see Stephen he always asked "how are you and Mr.Bolus?" I'm proud to have had Stephen as a friend. He touched my heart, as he did so many people and I'm praying for his family to have peace and comfort. Rest in peace my friend 🙏✝️❤️ Kelly and Tommy Bolus

A good and honest life is a blessed memorial indeed! Daddy Agori, you left a beautiful legacy. The moment I heard about your passing, I couldn't help but smile because you fathered me from afar. I always wanted to be like one of your children, but the closest I could get was being a friend to two of them (Andrew and Binawaare). I watched them closely and truly enjoyed being around them. A loving and caring man who selflessly loved his family. Though I never had the privilege of meeting him physically, my constant conversations with him over the phone revealed the remarkable and significant personality that he was. It was while my family was making plans to visit him and his household that the Lord called him home. His passing is truly painful, and he will definitely be greatly missed.
