Staff Sargeant (Ret) George Herbert Tomlinson was born on October 7, 1938, in Raleigh, NC. He departed this life on April 7, 2022, at home with his loving wife, Shirley, by his side. George was 83 years old. He was preceded in death by his father, George Lewis; his mother, Blondie Tomlinson; by his stepfather, William Tomlinson; and daughter, Christie Baugh.

He attended Washington High and J.W. Ligon in Raleigh, NC at an early age. He also received an Associate Degree while in the military from The American Military Academy. George retired Honorably from the United States Army after serving 22 years. After he retired from the military, he worked in Telephone Technology for Alcatel until he retired from the civilian sector.

He leaves to cherish his memories of his loving wife of 48 years, Shirley W. Tomlinson; his sons, Tony Tomlinson (Keena) of St. Louis, MO, Raymond Baugh (Charmonie) of Baton Rouge, LA, and Kenneth Smith (Sandra) of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Sharon Artis (Ray) of Raleigh, NC; one sibling, Donna T. Norwood, of Raleigh, NC; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615. Family and friends are welcome to visit after the service.
