Robert Edward Price, 93 died April 12, 2026, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Carl Edward Price and Vera Tannehill Price of Los Angeles, California. He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Oakley Price, sons John (Amy) and David (Laura), their mother Annette McCarson Price, 5 grandchildren, Serena, Zane, Jamie, Annabel, and Olivia, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother James F. Price of Los Angeles and sister Valerie Price Casey of Raleigh who were not only siblings, but also cherished friends.

Mr. Price graduated from Loyola H.S. (1950) and Loyola University of Los Angeles (1955), going onto a career in the aerospace industry as a research and design engineer. This took him from California to Pennsylvania over the following 19 years. He then came to Raleigh for 6 years with CP&L (now Progress Energy) in nuclear plant reliability and contract administration. He completed his professional career with 18 years at Honeywell International in Columbia, Maryland as engineering manager of precision timing support for NASA on an earth science project. He and Phyllis retired to Raleigh in 1999 to be nearer family and friends.

An avid lover of cerebral pursuits, he was more than happy to challenge people to games of chess where he would quickly make mincemeat of most opponents – except his son John. Every family needs a detail-oriented historian, a role that Bob wholly embraced! He spent several decades researching not just the genealogy of his family, but the stories behind the names. He has passed his meticulous notes and logs to his niece, Maria, in the hope that she will continue the hunt. Bob also had a great fondness for the sport of tennis, both playing it when younger and watching tournaments as he grew older. Most close friends knew not to call him in the middle of a Wimbledon final! Truly a renaissance man, Bob had a lifelong love of music that spanned all 9 decades of his life. From childhood boy choir, to learning the piano as an adult, to attending a wide variety of concerts and performances over the years, he shared this affinity with his talented sons and beloved Phyllis. In total, Bob was a treasured member of his family, where his dry humor and logic-based view of the world endeared him to many. He will be greatly missed.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 7th, 2026, from 7-9 pm at Renaissance Funeral Home 7615 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh, NC. A graveside service and inurnment are planned for 10 am, Friday, May 8th, 2026, at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers donations to either Helping Hand Mission, 623 Rock Quarry Rd, Raleigh NC, 27610 or the Durham Rescue Mission, www.durhamrescuemission.org would be appreciated.
