Phyllis E Stohler (Laudenschlager) passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026 after a brief illness.

Phyllis was born December 30, 1931 in Peru, IN to Lyell and Mary Laudenschlager (Moseley). Her grandmother was Ida Pier Moseley Carson. Phyllis graduated from Peru High School and Ball State University (MS degree in Education). She married Donald L. Stohler in 1953 and they lived and taught school in Kokomo, Indiana. Phyllis was active in volunteer work, serving as a 4-H leader for many years, as well as helping at schools, a hospital and with church activities.

Phyllis and Don moved to Raleigh, NC in 1998 to be closer to Mary Beth’s family. Phyllis continued her volunteer work in Raleigh, tutoring students at Baileywick Elementary School and Hunter Elementary School.

Phyllis was a member of the Lady Elks Auxiliary in Kokomo and the Elks Lodge in Raleigh, NC. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Kokomo and, after the move to NC, a member of Asbury Methodist Church in Raleigh. She was also a member of the National Education Association, Ball State University Alumna Association, the Indiana Retired Teacher’s Association, Delta Zeta Sorority, Greek club of Howard County in Indiana and AARP.

Phyllis has lived at Abbotswood at Stonehenge in Raleigh since 2015 and began serving on the Abbotswood Residence Council in 2016.

Her lifelong joy has been spending time with her two daughters and their families: Ann Stohler Costello (Tim) of Austin, TX and Mary Beth (Stohler) Grant (Wayne, deceased) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Amanda, Shane, Tyler and Ben; and great-grandson, Kayden. Phyllis was predeceased by her brothers, Ralph Laudenschlager and Lloyd Laudenschlager.

Phyllis and her sense of humor will be dearly missed by the many people whose lives she touched over her long life.

A Celebration of Life will take place in the multi-purpose room at Abbotswood at Stonehenge on May 16, 2026 at 3:00 pm.
