Mildred Smith "Millie" Davis

Mildred Smith "Millie" Davis, 92, of Raleigh, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

Millie was born on February 26, 1933, in Waynesboro, VA to the late Paul Smith and Gracie Panel Smith. Millie was one of eight children and the first in her family to go to College. She graduated from Hollins College in 1953 with a Diploma Degree Nursing. Millie was blessed to work in various areas of Nursing, but her most fulfilling years were spent at WakeMed in the Operating Room and Mayview Convalescent Care Center.

In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Pendleton "Eddie" Davis, in 1997.

Millie is survived by her children, Carolyn Knaup (Mike) and Philip Davis (Christi); grandchildren, Abbie Davis (JP), Kevin Knaup (Sarah), Tyler Knaup (Adrian), and Lance Davis; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her 95-year-old sister, Charlotte Harris.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30pm on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 5101 Oak Park Road, Raleigh, NC 27612. A livestream broadcast will be available on YouTube via the embedded link here. Following the service, there will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall where family will receive guests.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in honor of Millie be made to support continuing education at WakeMed for all peri-operative staff. Gifts may be directed to the WakeMed Foundation to help advance professional development, training, and excellence in patient care, a cause that was deeply meaningful to Millie.
