Martha Harris was born to Johnny Williams Jr. and Mary Alice Alston on July 15th 1933 in Warren County NC. She departed this life on December 25th 2022. Martha was preceded in death by her siblings Patty Williams, Lettice Robinson, Mary Wright, Leah Williams, James Williams and Johnny Williams, a very special niece Brenda and both of her children Ben Howell and Gerline Howell.

She was educated in the Warren County school system and accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at Saint Stephen Missionary Baptist church.

After she was married in 1949 she spent most of her adult life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This union was blessed with two children, Benjamin and Gerline Howell. In addition to her own children she helped raise two special nieces (Brenda and Dianne) and was the favorite aunt to many of her biological and adopted family.

After moving back to North Carolina she found a new family with her dialysis team and skilled nursing facility staff. Ms. Mary Flowers, her roommate and confidant were like two peas in a pod. Once they started living together no one could separate them. Our family is grateful for their bond.

Martha is survived by a very special nephew David Williams of Norlina (Vonnie), and a special niece Dianne Robinson (Glenn), a host of nieces and nephews, three grandsons Shane, Brandon and Bryan Howell and several great-grandchildren.

Martha will be remembered for the ways she encouraged people around her. She always saw a light in someone she met and made sure she shared that with them.

Here are a few word from Martha at her 85th birthday celebration; “Friends and family no matter what you go through keep joy in your soul the joy of the Lord will make you strong.

To the next generation the way has been paved through the blood, sweat and tears so dare to dream, hang your dream on the highest star and reach up. You can have it just reach up and grab it. Wishing you peace love and blessings”
