She was born in Live Oak, Florida on April 27, 1946, to the late Harvey and Kathryn Perry. Karen married the love of her life, Jimmy, on August 2, 1968. Karen and Jimmy lived in Raleigh until she retired as the Assistant to the Director of Admissions at NC State University in 1998 when they moved back to Live Oak to care for her mother. Karen moved back to Raleigh in 2012 to be near her children and the greatest joys of her life – her grandchildren, Elle and Grant.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jimmy Capps, and her brother, Bill Perry. She is survived by her sons, Jim (Debbie), Russ (Morgan), grandchildren, Elle and Grant, all of Raleigh, sisters Janet Stainer of Tallahassee, Florida and Sue Hunter of Live Oak, Florida, sister-in-law Margaret Perry of Columbia, SC and many special nieces and nephews.

She loved spending time with her family and friends and took immense joy in cooking delicious food for all occasions. Karen also loved being at the beach or at the pool, both of which she visited as frequently as possible. Cheering for her beloved Wolfpack was also a favorite pastime.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 27 at 11 am in the Gathering Place at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 201 Dixie Trail, Raleigh, NC followed by a celebration of Karen’s life at 12 noon in the Church’s Sanctuary with Rev. Drew Whaley officiating.

Russ and Morgan, Mimi loved her babies, (young and "old") thinking of all of you. She was absolutely the BEST. Big hugs and love!

Karen was a wonderful, vivacious woman. She was always full of kind words and always ready to help others. But her greatest love in life was her family. My heart goes out to her family. May you be comforted by joyful memories.

When I think of Karen, I remember the laughter, fun, twinkle in her eyes, and the "crazy" times we shared. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She will be missed. ♥️

Karen was my mentor. She taught me so much. She was great with cooking and clipping coupons. She was always happy and willing to help anyone that needed it. I'm so lucky to had her in my life, she made a difference in my life. She was a great role model. Love you Karen! - Stephanie C. Parker

So many memories of 40+ years. The most recent are the memories created at the beach. She had lots of "beach buddies" and we all enjoyed the great food and desserts she prepared. She was a mobile grocery store bringing all kinds of snacks and delicious desserts (my favorite was the pistachio cake). If any of us had a birthday, we got a cake. She has been a great friend and traveling companion for the last few years. I will really miss my friend. Gone too soon. Faye Dalton
