Obituary For Janet Arlene Lewis

Janet Lewis, 73, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away suddenly on April 3, 2024. She was the daughter of Charles and Lillian Cleveland. Jan was born on May 20, 1950 in Blossburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated from West Genesee High School near Syracuse, New York.

After graduating high school, she married Tom Lewis and had three daughters, Susan, Jennifer, and Sarah. They moved to Lauderdale Lakes, Florida in 1976. While raising their daughters, she earned her license to become a certified medical assistant and x-ray technician. She worked for many years in a general practitioner’s office. After moving to North Carolina in 1995, she attended Wake Technical Community College and received her Associate’s Degree in Human Services.

Jan and Tom were married on August 23, 1969; they would have celebrated their 55th anniversary this year. They enjoyed traveling to places like Rome, Brussels, London, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Grand Canyon to name a few.

Her favorite hobby was sewing. She made quilts, table runners, placemats, pillows, blankets and carrots. She happily made anything that was requested by her daughters and grandchildren.

Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved doing crafts, playing games, having Uno tournaments, going to parks, and museums. She loved being with her grandkids.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her loving husband, Tom and their three daughters, Susan (Mark) Poutre' of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Jennifer (Chuck) Kaplan of Wake Forest, North Carolina and Sarah (Frank) Thomas of Senoia, Georgia; four grandchildren, Taylor, Jasmine, Jordan, and William. She is also survived by three siblings, Terry (Janet) Coe, Bob (Dawn) Cleveland, and John (Karla) Cleveland and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27615. Visitation will be beforehand beginning at 10:00am. A procession will follow to Brier Creek Memorial Gardens, 7600 ACC Boulevard, Raleigh, North Carolina 27617. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Jan's name to the SPCA of Wake County.
