Obituary For James Thomas Flythe II

James Thomas (Jimmy) Flythe II, 69, of Raleigh, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

He was the son of the late James Thomas Flythe and Norma Jean Flythe. Jimmy was born on October 26, 1953, and took pride in being a native of Blackwell, Oklahoma. He graduated from Millbrook High School in 1971 where he played football and was a record-setting high jumper, known for the “Flythe Flop.” He attended Appalachian State University where he met his wife, Patrice. Upon graduating in 1975, he was commissioned as a 2LT in the United States Army Corps of Engineers and stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

After fulfilling his active service commitment, Jimmy returned to Raleigh to join his father at Flythe Construction Company while serving in the Army Reserves at the Corps of Engineers Wilmington District.

He was active in coaching soccer, refereeing, and serving on the board of Capital Area Soccer League. As a general contractor, he served on Star Building Systems President Advisory Council and as president of the General Contractors Association of Raleigh. Using his experience in construction and his love for the Lord, Jimmy participated on the boards of New Life Camp, North Raleigh Christian Academy, and Park of the Palms. For years, Jimmy was a vital behind-the-scenes guy as he partnered with Patrice in the Raleigh Christian Women’s Club ministry. He fellowshipped and counted it a privilege to shepherd the flock at North Ridge Bible Chapel, which he considered his home. He loved singing in the choir, the Men’s Chorus, and manning the audio equipment for the puppet team.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pamela Flythe Keough. His life will forever be cherished by Patrice, his loving wife of 49 years; his sons and their wives, Tripp and Heather, Christopher and Laura, and George and Mary-Grace; and his 10 grandchildren, Drew, Ella, Harper, Roman, Andrew, Cole, Addison, Lilly, Charlie, and Gunnar. Jimmy adored the Moretz clan in Hickory into which he married in 1973. They include his beloved mother-in-love, who he affectionately called “Toots” and Patrice’s four brothers, Anthony, George, Kevin, Keith, and their families. He so enjoyed being a part of the love and crazy antics of the Moretzes.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 28 from 6:00-8:00 pm at North Ridge Bible Chapel, 7100 Harps Mill Road, Raleigh, NC 27615.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, November 29 at 1:00 pm at North Ridge Bible Chapel followed by graveside services and military honors at Historic Oakwood Cemetery Field of Honor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: New Life Camp 9927 Falls of Neuse Rd. Raleigh, NC 27614

With gratitude, the Flythe family extends a special thank you to all the staff at TerraBella Northridge for the kindness, loving care, and friendship so freely given to Jimmy.

Words of Admiration for a Wonderful Wife and Advocate, Patrice. Everyday, day in and day out Patrice supported Jimmy through this difficult journey...ever present supporting her husband, surrounding him with love and family presence. When you walked into Jimmy's room, you knew this man was loved deeply by his family. Family pictures, wedding pictures, sports memorabilia, Soccer team/ coaching memories...and so on. A warm and nurturing presence was there for Jimmy's journey! He has been blessed by a loving wife and family! Blessings and Prayers for the Flythe family and their loved ones.

I met Jimmy at a Star National Sales meeting in the winter of 1981, when we first introduced the Builder Pricing System, and Flythe Construction was one of the first Builderships to adopt the technology. Jimmy has always been the epitome of a true and loyal friend. He is one of the best mem I have ever met. God bless him and his family.

Dear Patrice and Family, Jimmy is a dear brother and mentor, always sharing a joke or hearty laugh with others. While we will greatly miss this angel of a man on earth, we will rejoice with him, after we are called up yonder ! Absent from the body, present with Christ Jesus, Creator, Sustainer, Savior, and Lord ! May our Lord keep and bless each of YOU, in HIM !!

Jimmy and I were in history class together at Millbrook. We were always in trouble for talking. We met later when I went to work for Star and Jimmy was a builder. At national meetings he was always ready to point out whenever I took off my shoes under the table. I remember his humor and great attitude. He will be missed. Bless him and all of his family.
