Mr. James Gerard Deignan, 78, of Durham, NC (formerly from Greensboro NC) peacefully passed away on May 30, 2022. He was the son of the late John and Mary Deignan. Jim was born December 18, 1943 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was a graduate of St. Peter’s College where he studied Economics. After college, Jim served in the United States Navy for 4 years. It was while he was stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico that he met the love of his life, Janice. Their love story began on the beach of San Juan and they were united in matrimony on July 15, 1972. As their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary approaches this summer, we know that their love for one another is eternal. Jim spent close to 30 years working with the Department of Justice as an Agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration. In Jim’s own words, he “ate glass and kicked ass”. Janice and his 3 girls were the apple of his eye. Jim’s life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Deirdre (Brian) Lusk of Raleigh, NC; Alison (Matthew) Rausch of Raleigh, NC; and Jillian Deignan of Raleigh, NC. His 5, soon to be 6 Grandchildren (Colin, Connor, Pierce, Fiona, Claire and soon to be born namesake grandson, Jimmy) brought the biggest smile to his face. Jim’s heartfelt memories will always be remembered by his two brothers, sister, nieces, nephews and many other family and friends. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi in Raleigh, NC on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project

Jim was my first partner after I graduated from the DEA Academy. I only worked with him force few months before moving to my permanent assignment. We stayed in touch before he retired. He taught me a lot about the job and told me many stories which took place during his career. RIP Jim.
