Iona Eileen Green

Iona Eileen Green, 67, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on the evening of October 6, 2026. She is survived by her husband, Norman Green and her son, Tyler Green. She is survived by her In-laws Gary and Sandy Green and In-laws Shawn and Maura Fravel and her 2 nieces and 3 nephews.

Eileen was born in West Virginia to Frances (Jackie) and James Barrett. Shortly after Eileen's birth, her father was transferred to Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois. She spent her early years growing up in Rantoul, graduating from Rantoul Township High School. During high school she was very active as part of the Pep Squad, Eaglettes, Yearbook Staff, National Honor Society and the Rantoul Concert Chorus. In 1976 she was part of the Rantoul Concert Chorus that was chosen to sing for President Gerald Ford during his visit to Chanute Air Force Base. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Rantoul and an active member of their Youth Group. After graduating from high school she was a student at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois where she received her Associates Degree and her certification as a Certified Dental Hygienist.

In 1980, Eileen married her high school sweet heart, David Moffett. She and David lived in Champaign, Illinois but toured the U.S. as part of David's job with the U.S Geological Survey. Sadly, in 1985 David was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 1986. During this time, Eileen was an Executive with Target Stores in Champaign, Illinois. She remained as an Executive with Target for several years, later transferring to Indianapolis, Indiana.

In 1987, Eileen married Norman Green of Fairland, Indiana in a ceremony in Rantoul, Illinois. They resided in Fairland until Norman accepted a position to open a new store market for Target Stores in Athens, Georgia. Tyler, their son, was born in 1990. In Athens, Eileen established herself as a seamstress and maker of home fashion products such as drapes, swags, pillows, slip covers etc. Her business, Home Fashions by Eileen, was successful and well received in the community. Home Fashions by Eileen was featured in a Business Article in The Athens Daily News in 1992. In 1995, Eileen decided to close her business when Norman accepted a position to open a new store market for Target Stores in Raleigh, NC. Even though it was hard to leave Athens, the move did bring Eileen and Norman closer to family.

In Raleigh, Eileen moved her focus to raising a young son and integrating the family into the community. She later turned to banking as her next endeavor. She worked in banking until she retired in 2023. Her attention to detail, meticulousness and scrupulousness served her well as a Teller, Teller Supervisor and as an Operations Specialist. Her colleagues would respectfully refer to her as the Queen. They would tell me, when the Queen speaks, we listen and things happen! She truly loved her work and the many wonderful people that surrounded and supported her through her banking career.

Eileen was a gifted artist and creator. She filled the world with beauty and warmth. She was an exceptionally talented decorator and seamstress, whose creativity was most vibrantly on display in her home. No matter the season she took immense joy in transforming her house for every holiday and welcoming friends for lively bunco nights. Those who shared this time with her will deeply miss her presence and cherish every moment spent together. Her love of crafting and painting was woven into everything she did, leaving her family and friends with a lasting tapestry of beautiful handmade memories.

Eileen was a vibrant, thoughtful friend who filled the lives around her with creativity and joy. Some of the happiest moments were spent sharing laughs over a canvas at Pinot's Palette, discovering new favorite breakfast and lunch spots and playing lively games of bunco. A truly talented crafter, she poured her heart into making special gifts, handmade beautiful cards and whimsical holiday decorations including her memorable springy-legged reindeer, sock elves and Cricut creations. Her incredible thoughtfulness always shone through when she would create the prefect gift for a special occasion for family and friends. Eileen's distinct laugh, spunk and refreshingly honest opinions always brought endless laughter and light to every moment you were with her. She will truly be missed.

A private Family Service will be held on Oct 12 at the Renaissance Funeral Home of Raleigh, NC. Followed by Cremation.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on November 7, 2026 at the family home from 1 to 4 PM.

In lieu of flowers, Eileen requested donations to be made to the charity of your choice.
