Harry Joseph Brown, Jr.
Harry Joseph Brown, Jr. died on December 19, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 11, 1936, at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania, the firstborn of Harry J. Brown, Sr. and Mary V. Salmon Brown. He graduated from Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia and Received a Bachelor of Science (1958) and Master (1966) of Electrical Engineering from Villanova University. He served active duty in the United States Air Force after completing his undergraduate studies, then for several years in the USAF Reserve. He worked for many years at General Electric and Kidde Aerospace. He worked well into his 70’s and was involved in many challenging and important projects, including his early work at GE that contributed to the success of the U.S. space program, and his later work developing software for the aerospace industry.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Nancy M. Brown, of Raleigh; son, Stephen Brown (Jill) of Pittsboro; daughter, Elizabeth Brown Moser of Raleigh; son, Michael Brown of Newton Grove, and daughter, Christine Brown Flowe (Keith) of Browns Summit; grandchildren: Preston Moser, Emily Moser and Camilla Warrington; brother, Charles T. Brown (Carol) and sister, Mary H. Evarts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harry had a kind spirit. He bore his declining health with patience and never lost his sense of humor. He had become a grand master of the Dad Joke. Having grown up in a large, closeknit family, he treasured the times he could be with family. He enjoyed Phillies baseball, Villanova basketball, and a good technothriller novel. He was very firm in his faith and was, alongside Nancy, a founding member of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Raleigh.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Luke’s on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11 AM. Reception for family and friends will follow the service. A luncheon will be held afterward in the parish hall.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 12333 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27614.
