Faye Johnson Culpepper
Faye Johnson Culpepper of Beaufort NC was a sweet southern lady born on June 23,1933 in Brunswick Georgia to the late Raby Johnson and late Martha Bailey Johnson. Faye passed away on Dec. 22, 2025 at the age of 92. She spent most of her childhood on the southern Georgia coast with her cousins, the North family. She also spent time in the farming town of Glennville Ga as well as in the city of Atlanta, Ga, where she met the love of her life, Charley Culpepper. She graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick Ga in 1951. Charley joined the Air Force at the onset of the Korean War. At the age of 19, Faye travelled to Honolulu, Hawaii where Charley was stationed at Hickam Field. They were married on June 27, 1952 and lived in Hawaii until the war ended in 1953. She attended college and worked a Librarian. They relocated to Texas (Dallas, McAllen, San Antonio) where they started raising a family, two daughters Lucia & Julia (Julie). Charley worked for The Hartford Insurance Co. In 1967, he was transferred to the home office in Hartford, Ct where they moved and continued raising their family in West Hartford, Ct. Upon retirement in 1990, Faye and Charley moved to Raleigh NC, where they enjoyed the retired life of reading, libraries, music, museums, art and film festivals, watching old movies and mall walking. After Charley’s death in 2014, Faye moved to the coastal NC town of Beaufort to be near her daughter Julie and her family.
Faye was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Charley. She is survived by her daughters, Lucia (Tom) Keilty of Bethlehem, Ct and Julie Naegelen of Morehead City, NC. She has 5 grandchildren, Chelsea (Eric) Lawrence of Beaufort, NC, Carly (Chris) Frank of Morehead City, NC, Leah Keilty of Brooklyn, NY, Ryan and Samantha Keilty of Bethlehem, Ct. She has 4 great grandchildren, Emma Lawrence, Madelyn & Abigail Frank and Sophie Keilty.
The family of Faye would like to give special thanks to her caregivers over the years, Nicole Dudley, Robin Peters, Taylor Wyatt, Kim Wyatt and Martina Taylor who were with her until the end. Also we would like to thank past caregivers Kay, Maryanne, Laurel, Lisha, Lynn, Rose, Sharon, Vickie, Wanda, Sue, Ebony and the Bayada team, Wanda Temple and the In-Touch team plus Ginger and the Hospice team, doctors, nurses and staff at Carteret Healthcare & ER for the last 12 years, executives and staff at Crystal Bluffs, Dr. Jamie Crosswell & staff, Beaufort Fire and Rescue Squad, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Beaufort.
A service will be held at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Rd, in Raleigh, NC, on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM. She will be buried in the cemetery at St. Michael’s next to Charley. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Faye Culpepper to St. Michael’s Church, 1520 Canterbury Rd, Raleigh, NC. 27608 or Beaufort EMS, 683 W. Beaufort Rd, Beaufort , NC 28516.
