Obituary For Elizabeth Ellen Fitts

Elizabeth Ellen Fitts, age 95 of Cary, passed away May 31, 2023.

Ms. Fitts was born Elizabeth Ellen Garrett on July 13, 1927 in Greensboro, NC to the late Jacob Garrett and Lucy Lee Fannie Garrett (Caldwell). She was raised Methodist, but also attended Baptist churches. She later graduated from NC Agricultural and Technical College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. It was at NC A&T that Elizabeth met Clarence Calvin Fitts, Sr. They later married, and together, they had five children. In the mid-1950s, Elizabeth and Calvin relocated to NYC when their 3 sons Calvin Jr., Herman, and Ronald were toddlers. Their daughter Valencia and their son Landon were born in NYC.

Calvin Sr. predeceased his wife in December of 1986. Nearly two years later in October 1988, Elizabeth retired from Triboro Bridge and Tunnel Authority, where she had worked for 21 years as a legal secretary. Later, in 2005 she relocated from Yonkers, NY to Cary, NC where she lived out the remainder of her life.

Left to cherish her memory are Elizabeth's children, Calvin Jr., Herman, Ronald, Valencia, and Landon; as well as 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and 23 nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Fitts was the queen matriarch of the Fitts family, independent and caring, and was the sweetest woman you would ever know.

Visitors are invited to greet the family and pay respects to Ms. Fitts at Renaissance Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 6, at 1:00 pm, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm.
