Cheryl S. Hughes, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away on July 26, 2022, in St. Louis, MO, after a long illness. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Sammer, her husband Thomas J. Hughes, and brothers-in-law Gerald and William. She is survived by her brother-in-law Timothy J. Hughes and sister-in-law, Veronica A. Hughes. There were no children born of the marriage. Cheryl was born and raised in Yonkers, NY and attended St. Barnabas grammar and high schools both within walking distance of her home. Upon graduation from St. Barnabas High School, Cheryl pursued her Registered Nurse (RN) License through attendance at Misericordia School of Nursing. Following the award of her RN, Cheryl applied her nursing skills at Misericordia Hospital. Upon her marriage to Thomas, Cheryl moved to North Carolina where she moved through the ranks of her nursing career eventually becoming head nurse. Cheryl enjoyed her annual trips to Myrtle Beach with her husband and Tom’s cousins Leslie and Terry. When not working she enjoyed being a homemaker and friend to her beloved cat “Shadow Ann.” There will be a graveside service for Cheryl at Pine Forest Cemetery in Wake Forest, NC, on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cheryl’s memory to the Epilepsy Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association Alzheimer’s Association.
