Andrew "Andy" Holden Barnett

Andrew “Andy” Holden Barnett, age 67, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in Durham on July 13, 2026. Known for his dry wit, unwavering loyalty, and love for a good meal shared with friends and family, Andy lived a life defined by his character, deep relationships, and an endless curiosity for the world around him.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 27, 1959, he grew up in Big Flats, New York, the son of the late Harvey and June Barnett. Andy graduated from High Point University in 1981, where he was a dedicated member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and earned the lifetime nickname "Zeke." Though his early career began in sailboat sales, he found his true professional passion helping others during his long career as a trusted financial advisor.

Andy was a man of many passions and an avid collector of hobbies. He brought full energy to everything he tried, mastering pursuits that ranged from Tae Kwon Do and skeet shooting to fly fishing, kayaking, golf, baking bread, and birdwatching. Following his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, Andy’s resilience shone through as he focused entirely on what really mattered: his family, his friends, and savoring the small moments. His 15 month journey beautifully demonstrated his ultimate philosophy: work hard and keep good people in your corner. The immense circle of love and support he received from near and far stands as a testament to the profound impact he made on everyone who knew him.

Andy is survived by his wife of 44 years, Laura Barnett; his children, Emily Huneke (Christopher) and Peter Barnett; and his grandchildren, Logan, Molly, Lia, and John Huneke. He will be sorely missed by his extended family, fraternity brothers, and many dear friends.

In honoring Andy's wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date, with details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Duke ALS Clinic or the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

My heart just breaks for Laura and the kids and grands! There is not nicer guy than Andy. I had the pleasure of working with Andy at AG Edwards for over 14 years. He was the kindest guy and always ready to help with any problems or situations. Amazing guy! I know his family will miss him enormously! What a horrible disease. Pam Rigsby

I'll miss you - and your dad jokes. You were a great friend and neighbor to my family.
