Obituary For Wilson R Atwood

Wilson R. Atwood, 81, born December 19, 1931, to Alice C. Bates and Randall P. Atwood in New Haven, CT, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 15, 2013. After graduating from Hillhouse High School in New Haven, CT, Wilson joined the Connecticut National Guard which was subsequently activated into the Army. He graduated from Airborne Ranger School at Fort Benning, GA, in 1951, and the same year married his high school sweetheart, Patricia G. Oten, and in May 2012, celebrated 61 years of marriage. After his Army discharge, he began work at Socony-Vacuum Oil Company in New York City where Pat was employed as a nurse at St. Luke�s Hospital. In 1956 they welcomed a son, Brian Jeffrey, and in 1957 a daughter, Pamela Leigh, completing their family. During his years with Socony-Vacuum Company, Wilson attended night school at New York University and graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Accounts and Finance. In 1963, Wilson was offered a job with Texas Gulf Sulphur in Houston, TX and their family was off on a new adventure. Wilson retired from Texas Gulf in 1993. Mr. Atwood was pre-deceased by his son Brian, and daughter, Pamela, mother Alice, father Randall, brother Curtis and sister Mabel, nephew Henry, niece Barbara. He leaves his wife Patricia, brother-in-law Peter and wife, Betty Oten, four grandchildren: Randall, Alexander, Robert and Allison Corpuz and one great grandson, Jacobi Corpuz, and many other relatives and friends to cherish his memory. Inurnment Services will be private and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe be made in Wilson�s name to any of the following: The American Lung Association (514 Daniels St. #109, Raleigh, NC, 27605), The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (401 Harrison Oaks Blvd., Cary NC) or the Hospice House of Wake County (250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC, 27607).

    Uncle Will, You gave me so much joy as a child. When My dad had class in TX and you let us stay in front of your house in Houston in our Motor home. All 7 of us. You and Aunt Pat were some of my only Family I got to meet from my Dad's Side. I know Grammy Mabel Held me the first Year of my birth, But without pictures I wouldn't even know. Thank you for the wonderful phone calls we shared the last few years of your life. I'm So sorry that I never got to actually meet up with you and Aunt Pat, But know you meant the world to my Dad (Wayne) and I. you took me up to your office in that High Rise Office in Houston, I will never forget it.     I am so sorry for your loss. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3,4...states "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death.
