Obituary For William James Rohrer

William James Rohrer went to Our Lord on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at the age of 95.

He was born on October 2, 1918 in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

At the age of 20, he joined the US Army. He fought in World War II. After discharge, he went to and graduated from Youngstown University.

In 1963, he moved to Newport News, Virginia, to work at The Newport News Shipyard, from which he retired.

He was a devout Catholic where he attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for 42 years.

William was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Eleanor Evans Rohrer. He is survived by his son, Bill and wife, Vicky, of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Lou Ann Thompson and husband, Monty, of Christiansburg, VA; grandchildren, Olivia and Lucy Rohrer, of Raleigh, NC, Ellie Thompson of Christiansburg, VA, step-grandchildren: Chelsey Woodrum of Greenville, NC; Tyler and Erin Woodrum, of Winston-Salem, NC.

Funeral Services will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Newport News, VA on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 11am.

Graveside service will take place with military honors at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, VA at 12:30pm following the funeral mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or at hospiceofwake.org.
