Obituary For William Haywood Bannerman

William Haywood Bannerman, known to his family and friends as Bill, passed away on September 23, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born on October 9, 1934, in Burgaw, North Carolina, to proud parents William Tate Bannerman and Mary Evanovich.

Bill's life was a testament to dedication, service, and expertise. He answered the call of duty to his nation and served honorably in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of First Class Aviation Electronics Technician Petty Officer. His dedication to his craft and country was exemplary, a testament to his character.

As a youth, Bill enjoyed body surfing with his friends on the beaches of Carolina Beach, NC, creating cherished memories of carefree days by the sea. He was also a proud member of the New Hanover High School Marching Band, where his passion for music and camaraderie thrived.

Bill was not only an electrical engineer by profession but also an avid enthusiast of the mechanics of car engines. His love for tinkering under the hood of a car was a testament to his curiosity and his passion for hands-on work.

Bill received his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering at North Carolina State University, a milestone that marked the beginning of a successful career in the textile industry and as a plant engineer.

In 1961, Bill married the love of his life, Bonnie Blue Butler, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion. Their enduring partnership was a source of inspiration to all who knew them.

Bill was highly respected by his peers in his places of work, earning admiration for his expertise, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence. His colleagues held him in high regard, recognizing his invaluable contributions.

A loyal fan of the NC State Wolfpack and the Carolina Hurricanes, Bill's enthusiasm for sports was infectious. He cheered passionately for his favorite teams, sharing the excitement of victory and the camaraderie of the game with family and friends.

Above all else, Bill was a loving husband and father who always put his family first. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived and the enduring legacy of a man who will never be forgotten.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie, and their children; son John Bannerman (Christine), son Paul Bannerman (Bobbie Jean),daughter Tammy Burback Bannerman (Brian), and son Scott Bannerman (Heidi); seven grandchildren, Emily, Corbin (Katy), McKenzie (Cameron), Logan, Peter, Kellen and Shelby; and four great-grandchildren, Silas, Avery, Clea and Ehvie.

Bill's family tree was a testament to his dedication to his loved ones, with each branch thriving with love and togetherness.
