Obituary For William D. Hoppe
William “Bill” Hoppe, a veteran, husband, and father, passed away on October 3, 2018, after living at Elmcroft of Northridge since April 2016.
Bill was born on March 6, 1924, to Louis and Carrie Ruby Hoppe from Danville, a small town in central Illinois. After high school he joined the Navy during World War II and served as a Gunners Mate on a Destroyer Escort. Afterward, he became an ambulance driver for the Navy in Pensacola, Florida, where he met his future wife, Iris. They were married May 29, 1947, and enjoyed almost 70 years together until Iris died January 6, 2017.
Bill worked as a mortgage loan office in Decatur, Illinois, for many years and they raised their family there. Bill and Iris traveled through a lot of the United States by car. He was really good at driving on vacations wherever his wife Iris planned for them to go, and they both enjoyed their trips. They had lived most of their lives in Central Illinois until they got sick of the winters. They moved to Florida in 1979, where they lived in several locations during their 37 years there.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Janet Hiser (Don) of Raleigh; son, Dale (Donna) of Mt. Morris, Illinois; two grandsons, Jeff and Chris; and four great-grandchildren.
