Obituary For Warren Josef Pendergast

Warren Josef ('Pop') Pendergast, 80, died suddenly on Saturday, February 26, at his home in Wake Forest. He is the beloved husband of Diana and the father of Warren Jr. (Joe), Kenneth, and Karl.

Going into detail of who Pop was in this small space cannot do him justice. In short, he was rebel and a scrapper in his early days, and a man who cared deeply for his family later on. He was a creator of many things architectural and beautiful, a man afraid of nothing, an inventor, a researcher, a fixer, a tinkerer, a reader, a dog lover, a planter and a grower, a chatter and a talker, and a man friendly to absolutely all who were open to his take-your-time pace and uniquely thoughtful demeanor. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife and sons, he is mourned by his sister, Carole Fickert, from Easthampton MA, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Alan and Louise Small, from Naples FL, his grandchildren Alyssa, Mason, Colin, Evan, Ryan, Justin, and Owen, and his many nephews, nieces, and friends.

The family is happy to receive relatives and friends after 5:00 pm at Joe and Sharon's house (11509 Pacesferry Dr., Raleigh) on Friday evening March 4th for a casual dinner on the evening before the memorial service, and also for a post memorial service dinner at their house on Saturday immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Arbor Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, NE, 68410; by calling 1-888-448-7337; or visiting www.arborday.org/shopping/tictim/TIMSample.cfm.

Dear Diana, We would like to thank you and Warren for giving our family ... Karl. Your family life and nurturing must have been wonderful in order to raise such a treasured son-in-law. Warren's sense of adventure, analytical mind, and human decency were a priceless inheritance passed on to Karl and his brothers. With our sincere condolences to the entire family, Saul and Betty

We are truly sorry Diana and the entire Pendergast family have lost a special man. One can see Warren's strengths in his boys. Warren's time with each of them, nurturing and sharing his vast knowledge in so many areas, assured that his legacy has made them equally special in their individual families and in society. We will all miss him.
