Obituary For Virginia C. McGuinness

Virginia C. McGuinness, born on October 5, 1946, passed away Saturday February 28th, 2015 at home surrounded by her family and friends. Throughout her illness it was important to her that she was able to stay in the comfort of her own home with her husband.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Richard McGuinness, daughters Kelly DiCaprio and Karen Franklin (Eric) and son Keith (Yessenia). Ginny loved all of her grandchildren and will be missed every day by granddaughters Madison, Lily, Charlotte, Sabrina, Kayla, Alexis and grandson Issac.

Ginny graduated from NC State in 1991 with a degree in accounting and earned her Certified Public Accountants license shortly thereafter. She went on to start her own business and worked out of the home until her retirement in 2013. She was a business savvy woman who will be missed dearly not just by her family and friends but by her many clients as well. Those who knew her knew how caring, nurturing and generous she was. She was always searching for ways to give to others before herself, and never expected anything in return. Ginny and Richard enjoyed traveling together to visit family as well as spending time on the North Carolina coast. For their 25th wedding anniversary, they traveled to Las Vegas for the first time where they enjoyed the beauty of Nevada from inside the casinos. This became a trip that continued on for many, many years.

A Mass of Celebration will be held at St Francis of Assisi, 11401 Leesville Rd. Raleigh, NC, on Thursday March 5, 2015 at 4:00pm with a short visitation beginning at 3:15pm. Online condolences may be made at www.rfhr.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ginny’s name to Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network or Transitions Life Care.

My memories of Ginny and her family go back almost 40 years. Ginny and Rich became fast friends. We only lived in Metairie a short time but they supported us in our work in Marriage Encounter by watching all three of our kids on weekends. We also worked with them at St. Mary Magdalen Church and school. After 1979, we never lived in the same town again. We visited them in Tampa several times, met up in New Orleans and visited them in Raleigh. During these years of separation, Ginny was diligent in remembering our birthdays and anniversaries with cards and calls. During difficult times we received calls and notes of support and encouragement. Sometimes our phone visits lasted for an hour discussing kids, joys and struggles. Ginny was a great listener. You could feel her interest and concern with never a judgement . She was loving and gentle. We consider Ginny, Rich and their family OUR family. We will continue to draw on these memories to help us heal from the loss of our dear Ginny.

Mommy, I just miss you so so much. Most of all, I want to thank you. Thank you for being the best Mom. Thank you for loving us unconditionally. Thank you for showing us "fiscal responsibility" 😉 And thank you for being a rockstar and hanging on so you could see me get married. I will never ever forget that day. I hope it brought you peace like it did me. I love you Mommy. Say hi to Emily for us 🙂 Karen
