Obituary For Victor Morats
Victor Morats, died early Wednesday morning, October 11, 2017 at the age of 82.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 13th at 1pm at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Raleigh. Interment will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
Victor was one of the sweetest, smartest, kindest, most interesting and generous people you could ever meet. He was born in Estonia, Europe, orphaned in WWII, adopted by Mart and Leena Morats, and escaped the Russian invasion of Estonia at 9 years old to live in various Displaced Persons Camps in West Germany. He immigrated to the United States at 14 years old to live in Miami, FL. Although he didn’t speak any English when he arrived in the United States, he worked his way through school to become an Electrical Engineer. He then served in the Air Force for 15 years before leaving the service to work for the Air Force as a civilian for another 26 years. Victor enjoyed fishing, golfing, skiing, dancing, traveling, and playing the ukulele; and he never missed a chance to watch his Miami Dolphins.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Walsh Morats, his daughter Vickie Morats Olson (husband: William Olson), and his son Jeffrey Alan Morats (wife: Richelle Post Morats). He is also survived by five grandchildren, Victor, Everett, Wilton, and Maggie Morats, and Adara Olson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson’s Research – The Michael J. Fox Foundation (www.michaeljfox.org/Donate_Now).
