Obituary For Vickie Lynn Tuck Foust

It is our immense honor to announce that Vickie Foust has ascended to her new address in Heaven. She came to join the angels on December 22, 2023 and was immediately nominated for the position of Celestial Chairwoman of Social Activities, as she was by far the most qualified person for the position. Her infectious humor, natural charisma, and ebullient enthusiasm guarantee her great success in her new position, to the enjoyment of all. We are very pleased to say that she has accepted.

Vickie was born into her earthly life in Greenville, SC on December 10, 1948 to Marjorie Elizabeth and Clyde Leonard Tuck. She was the oldest of four children, including sisters Susan Kathleen Tuck and Cherry Laraine Tuck Smith and brother James Leonard Tuck. As she led the way in life, so has she led the way among her siblings in attaining her wings.

Vickie graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1966, after which she attended Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing, where she served her class as chair of social activities and earned her RN with a specialty in Geriatric Psychology. She worked in nursing homes and provided home health care for seniors for over 30 years; she was a leader in her field and shared her knowledge and experience by mentoring newer nurses in the field. Even the doctors she worked with turned to her for input on how to best care for the patients in her charge.

Vickie was married on June 24, 1972 to Michael Ronald Foust; their marriage lasted for 25 years and yielded a daughter, Amy Kathleen Foust Macris. She taught her daughter a great deal and inspired her to embark upon a career in the health sciences. Vickie also passed to her daughter her sense of humor and her great love of music. Amy has many wonderful memories of laughter and of singing along with Vickie to the radio on long car rides, especially to Vickie’s favorites, such as Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and the soundtrack to The Commitments. Vickie had music in her soul, even if she did hate her piano lessons as a child.

One of Vickie’s greatest joys was spending time with her many friends. She loved going to festivals, concerts, restaurants, the theater- she was pretty much up for anything. She was an excellent hostess and brought her infectious energy to whatever groups she joined. She joined the Ski Club even though she had never skied before just for fun.

Vickie was an adventurer who loved to travel. As with her social groups she was always up to go pretty much anywhere. She traveled widely both in the US and abroad; just a few of her globetrotting stops included numerous Caribbean Islands as well as Mexico, England, Australia, and New Zealand. She enjoyed flyfishing and even learned to tie her own flies.

Vickie had a strong personality and as devoted as she was to her friends, woe betide those who crossed her. If you were facing trouble and you had Vickie in your corner, you had a formidable ally. Several times she opened her home to friends in need for as long as they needed her help.

Vickie had a fire in her soul that burned bright and hot. That much fire always comes with a price, but we don’t believe she would have wanted to be otherwise; it was not in her nature. As much as she loved socializing in her Earthy life, she did not want people “fussing over” her after her departure and asked not to have a service. She was larger than life and as such has left a sizeable hole.

She asked to have her Earthly remains planted beneath a tree so that she could nourish new life. In that spirit, in lieu of flowers, she and her family would love to have trees planted in her honor. Donations can be made in her name to the US Forest Service Plant-A-Tree Program at plantatree.fs.usda.gov or of course you can simply plant a tree for her wherever you are.

Vickie sends her love eternally and has asked us to pass along this message:

“See you later, alligator!”

After ‘while, crocodile.

The relationship between mother-in-law and son-in-law is traditionally a perilous one, but Vickie opened her heart to me from the day we met. Driving her around to various doctor appointments, I came to learn the source of Amy's love of music and humor, and delighted in singing oldies with her. It grieves me that I only got to know her when age and life had taken such a toll on her. Love, Alex

We had so much fun in Nursing school. She was a bridesmaid in our wedding. We connected again later in life and enjoyed many lunches together. I will miss her and think of her often. Certainly agree that she is the Social chairman in heaven.
