Van helped us build a building. We learned to respect and admire him. We thought of him as our friend. We are sorry to hear of his passing. May his family find comfort in their many memories of Van. Or condolences. Charlotte and Pat DiLeonardo

It is with great sadness that I leaned of the passing of Van who was my football coach at Murfreesboro High School my senior year. All of the players on our team that year had a huge respect for him and responded to his style of coaching. We won more games than we lost that season including a rare win over Rich Square High School on their home field the final game of the season. One of the hallmarks of his style of coaching was to always play fair and play with great sportsmanship even through several of our opponents that year did not adhere to the same values. Van touched many lives and he will be missed. Frank Stephenson, Murfreesboro, NC
