Obituary For Thomas Joseph Corrigan

Thomas Joseph Corrigan, 71, of Raleigh, North Carolina, loving husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully at home on May 25th, 2024.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (nee Houser), son Andrew (Natalie), son Timothy (Morgan), granddaughter Brenna, brother Joseph and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was born in Philadelphia, PA. A proud Northeast Catholic High School graduate, he went on to complete his accounting degree at Temple University. Tom worked from 1969 until 1983 for several grocery stores chains in the Philadelphia area. Then he went on to work for UMICORE for 27 years, where he held several roles in finance. His time at UMICORE included commuting to midtown Manhattan from Philadelphia for 12 years. His position offered opportunities to travel to Europe and Africa. Along with UMICORE, his family relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1998.

Tom retired in 2009 and he gave his time and talents to several causes, including childhood literacy and care for people suffering homelessness. Tom worked for the Wake County Board of Elections in various roles for over 12 years, and took great pride in ensuring his neighbor’s voices would be heard in municipal, State, and Federal elections.

Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, but mostly his dedication to family. Tom’s extended family was large and he found strength in their company. He loved to work a room at a family reunion to catch up on the latest news and would beam at their accomplishments.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother and father Anna and James Corrigan, his brother James Corrigan, sister-in-law Eileen Corrigan (Curry), his sister Anne Therese Gill, and brother-in-law Jerry Gill, his sister Clare White and brother-in-law Harry White, and his sister-in-law, Joyce Corrigan (Kurz).

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Parish, 225 Bellevue Avenue, Penndel, PA, 19047, on Monday June 24th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Francis Inn.

Worked with Tom during the elections. He was always ready to help with any voting questions. The world will miss him greatly. My deepest sympathy to his wonderful family.

So sorry to learn about Tom.   I met Tom over 50 years ago.  We both grew up in Kensington. My brothers also attended North. We had mutual friends.  I have just so many great memories of Tom.  He taught me how to drive a stick shift.  I too remember that MG sports car. Over the years we lost touch. I would get updates about Tom from our mutual friend Iris.   Actually, that was the last time I saw Tom when we lost Iris in 2016.  Such a wonderful sweet man. My sincere condolences to Dot and the entire family.

There are so many memories of Tom to share from back in the day. One that stands out is hitching a ride to Wildwood with Tom in his MG Sports car. What's so memorable is the car was a two seater with Tom in the drivers seat and friend Jack in the passenger side. That left me to ride in the middle just above the stick shift. We had such a fun ride with the top down singing and laughing all the way... how we didn't get stopped, I don't know. He was a great guy!!!

My heart goes out to you Dorothy, Andy and Tim, and the rest of your family. Tom started as a co worker but became my friend so many years ago. When you say "Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, but mostly his dedication to family." we can add that he lives on in the stories and memories of his Umicore friends as well. He was always quick with his support and humor and that isn't forgotten. Hugs, Holly

To the entire Corrigan family, So sorry for your loss. I met Tom more the 50 years ago while at North. Catholic. Got to know him even better as a friend of my uncle Ron. He always had a smile on his face and whether it was 5 days or 5 years between times that I saw Tom - it always felt like yesterday. Can't say enough about how great and nice a man he was , a true gentleman. My prayers and thoughts are with you all. Tom Burke
