Obituary For Theresa (Terry) M. Kasopsky
Theresa “Terry” M. Kasopsky passed away peacefully May 23, 2025.
Terry was born September 12, 1927, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in a house next to the boardwalk and ocean. At age 6, she moved with her younger sister and mother to Scotland Neck, N.C., to live with her aunt and uncle. She remained there until age 13, when she and her sister moved to a Catholic orphanage in Raleigh. Terry lived at the orphanage until graduating from high school.
Following graduation, Terry enrolled in cosmetology school and began a career as a hairdresser. She later married Gus Kasopsky in Pennsylvania, and in 1959 the couple settled permanently in Raleigh. Terry worked for 12 years at the original Mitchell’s Hair Styling in Cameron Village, where she served as a stylist, manicurist, and salon receptionist. Hair, nails and outfit were always a priority before leaving home-Terry believed in looking her best wherever she went.
Terry will be remembered for her deep faith and lifelong devotion to St. Raphael Catholic Church, where she was a faithful member from the parish’s earliest days. She served as a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Altar Guild, and sang in the choir. Her generous spirit was evident in her countless volunteer hours visiting shut-ins, delivering Meals on Wheels, and ministering to the sick.
Terry had a profound love for her family. She found joy in preparing meals for the holidays, always extending an invitation to those who were alone or without family, especially at Christmas.
She especially adored her grandson, Brooks, and she and Gus rarely missed one of his baseball, basketball, or soccer games. She was immensely proud of his accomplishments, including his marriage to Jaimie, and cherished her role as “Gran-mom” to two great-grandsons.
Terry and Gus shared many happy memories traveling to their favorite place—Myrtle Beach. Even into their late 80’s they continued their adventures, working together as pilot, co-pilot and navigator-safely switching roles as needed.
It cannot go without saying how deeply Terry loved her two precious dogs – first Prissy, and then Mikey who continues to live on at 18 years old.
Terry was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, Gus, and her sister, Rose Farhart.
She is survived by her son, Michael Kasopsky (Sue); her grandson, Brooks Kasopsky (Jaimie); and her great-grandsons, Emerson and Archie.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the memory of Theresa to Transitions LifeCare Hospice, Raleigh N.C.
