Obituary For Susan Rose Pizzo
Susan Hoff Rose Pizzo of Timberlake, NC, passed away on Thursday January 07, 2016 at the age of 58. Born in Elmira, NY, Susan moved to NC in the early 60’s and remained here until her death. She graduated from Cary High School in 1975 and received her English degree from NCSU in 1979.
Susan is survived by her husband and best friend, Dr. Salvatore Pizzo; her mother Doris L. Whitfield of Raleigh; her son Robert Ruchte, his wife Amy and their children of Raleigh; step-children David Pizzo, his wife Robyn and their daughter of Murray, KY; Susan Ulrich, husband Karl and their children of Morrisville, NC; Stephen Pizzo of Durham; and sisters Ann H. Wilson of Easton, MD; Margaret L Fetty, husband Allan of Austin, TX; and their daughters Lindsey Fetty Vickers and husband Ryan also of Austin, TX; and Kate Fetty and fiancé Joe Dobish of Seattle, WA.
Susan was a writer and authored 3 books published under her pen name I. C. Springman. “More”, a delightful children’s book dedicated to her grandsons Mason and Jack, and illustrated by renowned artist Brian Lies, received rave international reviews. She was a voracious reader, deciding some time ago that there was not enough time to indulge in fiction, although she loved the classics, especially Jane Austen. Susan also loved NPR, listening intently as she went about her day, keeping her company as she enjoyed daily walks, rain or shine, with each of their 3 dogs. Susan was an amazing hostess, often creating elaborate meals with Sal by her side, both enjoying their shared love of good food and wine with family and friends. Susan and Sal recently fulfilled one of Susan’s life long dreams by purchasing and beautifully restoring an historic house built in 1790. Susan was laid to rest on Saturday January 9 at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens with family and close friends in attendance. Memorial contributions may be made in Susan’s memory to WUNC at wunc.org or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary at bestfriends.org.
