Obituary For Susan Catherine McMullen

Susan Catherine McMullen, 56, passed away on March 7, 2016 after a yearlong battle with breast cancer. While Sue’s life was shorter than she deserved, she filled it with smiles and joy, leaving her family and friends with many happy memories that will help them to cope with her loss.

Sue’s life revolved around her family. She was a deeply dedicated wife and mother, and her care for her family could be seen in everything she did. She and her husband Fran were married for 25 years full of laughter and love before he passed away in 2011. They were truly meant for one another, their bond built on a shared need to laugh as much as possible and hearts too big for their chests. Their love only grew when they welcomed their daughters, Meghan and Shannon, in 1991 and 1995.

Sue was, hands down, the greatest mother in the world. Her girls were her number one priority; they knew they could count on her for anything they needed. When the girls were young, her time was spent volunteering at St. Raphael’s, where she could be found volunteering at any and all school events. As they grew older, the bonded over movies at the Rialto, shopping trips to Nordstrom, and visits to the DPAC. Treasured memories were also made on trips to the Jersey shore, Disney World, and the Bahamas.

Sue is survived by her devoted daughters Meghan and Shannon; sister Barbara (Jim) Kavana; brother Joe McGowan; sister-in-law Lisa (Donald) Capone; sister-in-law Irene (John) Glenn; nieces Jessica Capone and Kim Kavana; nephews John Glenn, Ryan Kavana, and Brenden Kavana; and many cherished friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Francis McMullen and parents Howard and Catherine McGowan.

Meghan and Shannon, I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. She was a very special lady and will miss seeing her smile as we took walks in the neighborhood. Please know that I am only a few doors down that if you need anything please do not hesitate to ask. My thoughts and prayers are with both of you girls and the family during this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort in Psalm 34:18. "God is close to the broken-hearted and saves those crushed in spirit. "Make God your comfort. He "heals the broken-hearted." Psalm 147:3 and provides "refuge and strength in times of distress." Psalm 46:1
