Stu came to visit me in March 2014 to run the Publix Half marathon in Atlanta. It was just one of the many great memories he and I shared - layovers for beer in Hartsfield Jackson Airport, Braves games, undergrad and grad school, lunch at Sammys, his incredible behind the back catch in intramural football and much more. Very fortunate to call him a friend!

Everyone would be lucky to have a friend like Steven. Rarely have I come across a person who embodied the true fabrics of friendship--kindness, camaraderie, and compassion--as effortlessly as he did. The kind of person who kept an open door policy at his home where we grew up in Winston-Salem. The kind of person who you could pick up with right where you left off even if it had been months or years. The kind of person who when I asked if he wanted to do something goofy like join a Skee Ball League in Raleigh, treated it like a no-brainer. I am sure there are many fine things that Steven did in his life that none of us will ever no about, because he was the kind of person who did what was right, even if no one was looking. I am fortunate to have known him and to call him my friend.
