Obituary For Shirley Jean Holt

Shirley Jean Holt, 74, of Raleigh, NC, died on September 24, 2019 after a 10-year battle with cancer. She was born in Tampa, FL on September 21, 1945 to the late Joe and Aracelia Fernandez.

Shirley went to school at Hillsborough High School in Tampa, FL. After graduating high school, she went on to a very successful career in banking, retiring (her dream job) in 2008 to spend more time with her family and friends.

Shirley married Karl "Butch" Holt on November 15, 1969. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. He was in the Navy when they got married and they spent the next 16 years enjoying various duty stations around the world. Shirley was much loved by her family, and her many friends from the Navy days and from high school, who she still maintained close contact with.

She was a huge Florida Gator fan, much to the chagrin of her husband who is an FSU fan. But she usually won all of the “who was better” arguments. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Joe Fernandez, all of Tampa FL.

She is survived by her spouse, Butch; her son, Jason; and her granddaughters, Kelsey and Peyton Holt, all of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Sonnamaker of Titusville, FL. as well as, her many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was a wonderful lady who was much loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. No services are planned at this time.

I will always treasure the many hours after school( elementary years) playing "school" in the garage. We were great playmates. Blessings, Bonnie Cheney Parr

Shirley was a very special person. She had a rare ability to enlighten a room with love and laughter. Shirley will be missed very much by us. God Bless Shorty and his family. Vicki and John Fiorani
