Serafina (Sara) Abell was born to eternal life on Friday, October 26, 2018 at age 82.

Born May of 1936 in Flushing, Queens, New York, Sara lived there until her marriage to David in April 1968.Sara and David lived in upstate New York for 30 years, then retired to Raleigh. After her marriage, Sara worked for a time at IBM Corporation, then devoted her time to caring for her children as well as to various part-time positions in child care. Sara and David celebrated 50 years of marriage in April of 2018.

Together, they have a son, Andrew; a daughter, Maria Thompson; son-in-law, Adam Thompson; and grandson, Emanuel; all residing in Raleigh. Also, Sara is survived by a sister, Josephine Schneider; brother-in-law, John Schneider, Jr, of Bernardsville, New Jersey; a brother, Joseph Gallo; sister-in-law, Marie Abate Gallo, of Henderson, Nevada; and several nieces and nephews.

Sara was preceded in death by her Father, Dominic Gallo, and mother, Grazia Constanziallo Gallo, both immigrants from Corato, Italy. Sara gave her mortal remains to UNC School of Medicine for medical research and organ donations. The urn will be interred at St. Mary's cemetery, Paragould, Arkansas.

The family of Serafina wishes to express their profound gratitude to Transitions Hospice personnel who lovingly cared for her during her final days on earth.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church beginning at 12:30 p.m. on November 3, 2018, followed by a Memorial Mass at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served immediately following the Mass.
