Obituary For Scott Hamilton Newell

Scott Hamilton Newell, 62, of Garner, NC, peacefully passed away surrounded by his wife, Janice, and family. He was the son of the late James Richard Newell and Barbara Hamilton. Scott was born on January 31, 1962, in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

For the past several years, Scott worked as an IT specialist for KCI Technologies in Raleigh, NC. He loved his work and deeply valued his colleagues, always speaking highly of them and handling each workday with grace and humor.

Scott was a lifetime member of the NRA and an active member of the Heart of Carolina Mustang Club. A lover of theater, he took part in numerous productions both onstage and behind the scenes. Most recently, he performed in a few plays at The Little Neuse Theater in Smithfield, NC.

An avid Trekkie, passionate reader, and a jack-of-all-trades, Scott loved taking on projects and often claimed, “There’s nothing broken that I can’t fix.” His love of conversation was legendary—once engaged, he spared no detail and often introduced his expansive vocabulary into discussions. Words like “guffaw” (a loud burst of laughter) became inside jokes with his wife, who would playfully respond with, “Guffaw, guffaw, guffaw.”

Scott’s friends and family described him as quirky, brilliant, full of wisdom, and possessing a sharp sense of humor. His passion for history, straightforward political insights, and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Scott was truly a unique and special individual.

Scott is survived by his wife of 24 years, Janice, and their children: Jaime, Keith (Bryce), Kinny, Elena, and Edward. He was also a proud grandfather to Cayden and Connor.

He is further survived by his brother, Jamie Newell of Myrtle Beach, SC, and his sister, Lee Kanash of Millers Falls, MA, as well as his beloved pets: Teuvo, a Pomeranian, and Miss Kitty.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on December 20, 2024, at Historic Oakwood Cemetery. All are welcome to attend, and guests are encouraged to wear holiday attire, as Scott was eagerly looking forward to Christmas.

Following the holidays, a celebration of life will be held in Scott’s honor. Details about the date and location will be shared at a later time.

Condolences

Very sorry for your loss. I only got a chance to sit down and chat with Scott in person once, during an IT event with KCI. He talked our heads off but it was a perfect way to meet and get to know Scott. He will be missed and I'm only sorry I didn't have the opportunity to get to know him better. Our thoughts are with his family during this tough time.

Dear Janice and family, My deepest sympathies from my family to you and yours. To lose such a brilliant man, a best friend, dad, grandfather, and brother, I can't imagine your pain. He certainly sounded like he was super funny, and talented, remember all the good times, don't stop telling his stories, and keep them close to your heart. Just know that I am thinking of you and if you need anything please feel free to reach out. Cheryl Carmichael
