Joseph Mitchell, 39, of Raleigh, NC passed away unexpectedly following a traffic accident on March 2, 2020.

Ryan was a gentle soul. Whether cheering on his children at sporting events or preparing his famous collards and sausage balls for innumerable Mitchell-family parties and holiday gatherings, Ryan was happiest in the company of those he loved. A butcher by trade, meat was his passion. When not at work, Ryan lived for walks in the woods, Cincinnati Reds baseball (best listened to on the radio), and above all else, his beloved children. A connoisseur of the casual, Ryan was most comfortable in a well-worn t-shirt or hoodie. Ryan will be forever loved and greatly missed by all who knew him and will live on in Simpsons references, dragons, and the holes in all of our t-shirts.

Ryan is survived by his wife, Nicole Mitchell, and children, Joseph (24), Caiden (13), Ellison (11), and Liam (10) of Raleigh, NC; his parents, Megan and Rodney Mitchell of Raleigh, NC; his brother, Charley (Emily) Mitchell of Florence, SC; his sister, Renee (Bruce) Robinson of Colorado Springs, CO; and his grandfathers, William Mitchell of Raleigh, NC and William Cole of Galena, OH. Ryan was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Delores Mitchell and Barbara Cole.

Ryan’s life will be celebrated with friends and family at William B. Umstead Park, Crabtree Shelter #1, at 1:00 PM on Saturday March 7, 2020. 8801 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27617. Ryan would want his friends and family to come enjoy this celebration in casual attire.
