Ryan Andrew Rivers, 23, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on April 6, 2024, at Duke Raleigh Hospital after a heroic battle with muscular dystrophy. He was born in Raleigh, NC, on September 21, 2000, son of Marc and Patrice Rivers.
Ryan attended Wakefield Elementary School, Wake Forest Middle School, and Heritage High School where he was well known and admired by his classmates and especially loved by all his teachers. He was an expert at driving his mobility wheelchair to class.
Ryan had a photographic memory of everyone he met and of driving directions, even on long trips. He would resolutely sound the alarm on I-95 if we missed the I-26 exit to Charleston to see his grandparents. He forever remembered his grandparents and great grandparents and would call out the names of all those who left us many years ago. He so enjoyed all those who visited him, and each day looked forward to his brother’s return home from school or work.
Ryan loved music, heartwarming and educational videos and would memorize the content in fine detail. He cherished his family, and was always kind to his friends. He had a special fondness for his nurses, Kathy and Chantelle, who were dedicated to his care.
He is survived by his loving parents, Marc and Patrice, and his older brother, Benjamin of Raleigh, NC.
A wake will be held at 3:00 and memorial service at 4:00 on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Church at Six Forks, 9121 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC, 27615.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Ryan to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Ry-Ry you will always hold a special place in my heart. I will miss you dearly. Watching you grow up in my class at Wakefield will always be special. I will miss You.❤️ Patrice, Marc and Ben, my heart breaks for you all. You have always been in my thoughts and prayers, and now even more. I hope you take the time to grieve for him. God made Ryan very special and now it's Gods turn to take care of him. I'm here if you need anything.

An absolute legend, taken far too soon. A man with a brilliant sense of humour who saw the best in everything and everyone. He made the world a much brighter place and he will never be forgotten. Ryan is awesome.

I remember Ryan as a joyful student in my class at Durant Road Middle School. I'm so sorry to learn of his passing. My sincerest condolences. May God recieve his soul and may he grant his family comfort and peace that surpasses all understanding to his family during their time of bereavement. "Earth has no sorrow Heaven cannot heal."

Ryan was such a special person to us, we have known him since he was born. We loved hearing him say our names when he would see us....and seeing him smile and happy was the best gift! We will always remember "Ryie", he will always hold a special place in our hearts! Marc, Patrice and Ben, you know we love you and are here for you!
