We have known Ruthie and the Waltz family for many years - since the 80's as a couple, and I since the mid 70's. She was my Mom's dearest friend and helped me through the loss of both her and my Dad. One of my favorite memories was of when we were driving from OH to GA and stopped off in Knoxville to let our 3 boys (then about 5, 9, and 12) stretch their legs and meet up with Ruthie and Ken briefly before driving the rest of the way to Columbus to Mom & Dad's. She asked if the boys wanted to swim (which, of course they jumped at) and we all took a dip in the lake and arrived a bit later than planned to GA, but much happier and well rested! She made everything fun and our boys loved her dearly (as did we!!) Miss her!!

Memory: it has been about 60 years ago. A young couple, a man and all I can remember was this beautiful young lady named Ruth, strolling in an area near water with my mother Elaine and my father Pat, along with me sister Barbara and I. They had just moved to Mount Rainier Maryland. I think I may have been in first or second grade. For some reason this woman and her kindness remained all this time. We moved and I never saw them again. But I always remembered Ruth. This week I searched and found this memory wall. I am saddened that Ruth is gone, but I wanted her family to know how much her kindness towards me meant. My deepest condolences. I see these photo memories and they bring warmth to my soul. I am sorry for your loss. Rev 21:4 gives us hope of a time when we won't have to worry about death anymore.

There are so many fond memories!! I remember when she and Mr. Ken first moved into the neighborhood. I saw this huge moving van parked out front of their house. The first time I met Ruthie was the next day. My garage door was open and I heard a knock on the door. She was standing there with a measuring cup wanting to borrow a cup of sugar. Then there was the time I was laying some paving stones around my patio. She would come sit and talk to me, wanting so badly to help. Of course, I wouldn't let her. She finally said "I'm going to go make us some lunch!" Off she went...returning in just a bit with some open face avocado sandwiches on her beloved German rye bread. My first thought was how am I ever going to eat this!! But I did and loved it!! One more and I'll stop! One day I was next door visiting Doris and had left my garage door open. I came back home and just as I rounded the corner I see my door shutting! Not knowing who it was I go busting through the door yelling "who's in here?" There stood little Ruthie! We both laughed so hard! She was one of a kind and the life of any party!! She sure did hang tough through her battle! I, like so many, will truly miss her!!

I remember the Sunday she decided to walk to church, but her shoes hurt her feet. So she flagged down the first car that would stop and hitched a ride with two complete strangers, to church. I don't even think they spoke English. To think about it, we are pretty lucky she lived as long as she did and did not get murdered by some stranger. She loved everyone. Love my Ruth.

Who could forget her tumble in the church during a wedding rehearsal? She popped right back up, Kersten couldn't stop laughing, and the tension was relieved. Her exuberance made people happier. Blessings to those grieving her absence.
