Obituary For Ruth Carter Bower

Ruth Carter Bower of Raleigh, NC passed away on January 28, 2016 at the age of 78. She was born January 22, 1938 to Leon Arthur Carter and Alberta Beatrix Chamberlin in St. Petersburg, Fl.

She was a loving mother, devoted wife and dear friend to many. She loved helping others, volunteering and singing in the choir at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church where she had been a member since 1967.

She is survived by son, James Lee Bower, daughter-in-law Marjorie Whitfield Bower, grandchildren: Laura Kathryn Bower and Douglas James Bower of Louisville, KY; son, William David Bower, grandson Austin Carter Bower and great-grandson Nicholas Parker Mowles of Raleigh, NC; son, Robert Michael Bower, daughter-in-law Barbara Ann Bower and granddaughter, Erin Faith Bower of Raleigh, NC and granddaughter, Emily Ann Bower of Rocky Mount, NC; brothers: Robert Lewis Carter of Stanley, NC and Leon Wallace Carter of Rochester, NY. She is predeceased by her husband Lee Fraser Bower and daughter-in-law April Brinley Bower.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on February 3, 2016 at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 4921 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the music program at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church by sending a check to the address above or to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.

    I am so very sorry for your loss. The Bible makes this comforting promise: "Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted, he saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18) It also assures us: "Throw your burden on Jehovah, and he will sustain you." (Psalm 55:22) May these thoughts bring you a measure of comfort at this difficult time.

    Ruth was just the sweetest aunt ever. She deserved better than what the last few years had in store for her, but as always she handled things with grace and dignity. She will be missed. Dave Keller, Tulare, California
