It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Russell George Norby, who left this world all too soon on October 27, 2023. Born on May 23, 1993, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Russell was a cherished member of his community, known for his kind and humble spirit, his unwavering love for family, and his passion for music, history, and the world around him.
Russell's journey began in Raleigh, where he was born and raised, and it was there that he cultivated deep connections with family, friends, and his community. He graduated from Sanderson High School in 2011, marking the beginning of his educational journey. In 2015, he proudly earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a testament to his dedication to learning and personal growth.
In May 2023, he achieved a significant milestone by receiving his Electrician Degree from Wake Technical, setting the stage for a promising career. Russell found fulfillment in his work as an electrician at Spark Power, demonstrating his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft.
Russell's greatest love and pride were his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth in the hearts of those he held dear. He is survived by his loving mother, Laura Iannacone Fowler, his brother, Matthew Alan Norby, his father, David William Norby, and his step-father, Joe Alan Fowler. He also leaves behind his beloved daughter, LilyAnn George Crosby-Norby, a testament to his enduring legacy.
In addition to his immediate family, Russell is survived by his grandmother, Lillian Iannacone, and his grandfather, George Iannacone, as well as step-sisters Jennifer Fowler and Jessica Fowler. Russell had a special place in the hearts of many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, step-nephews, and step-nieces who adored him and will miss him dearly.
He had an immense love for animals, with a particular fascination for whales. His inquisitive mind led him to explore the worlds of geography and history, and he became a knowledgeable authority on the history of the world and various countries. But above all, Russell's greatest joy was spending time with his family, and his daughter, basking in the sun and sharing the warmth of their love.
A talented drummer, Russell could lose himself in the rhythms of music, often playing for hours with his brother and friends. His music was a reflection of his vibrant personality and brought joy to those who were fortunate enough to hear it. Russell's infectious smile, a symbol of his boundless optimism and inner light, endeared him to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
In our hearts and memories, Russell George Norby will forever remain, a beloved son, brother, father, and friend. His legacy of love, kindness, and passion for life will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate to share in his journey. As we bid him farewell, we remember his beautiful smile, and the love he gave to us all. Rest in peace, dear Russell, you will be deeply missed.
