Obituary For Russell Deacon Flynn

Russell D. Flynn passed away gracefully at home on January 10, 2012 at the age of 77. He was born on February 11, 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts. He lived in Norfolk, Massachusetts for nearly fifty years before moving briefly to North Carolina to stay with his daughter.

His wife of over fifty years, Marie Dolores Flynn; and his daughter Susan and husband Joseph Izatt, and grandchildren Benjamin, Gregory, and Daniel of Raleigh survive him.

Russell cherished his time working with his colleagues in the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #17, of which he was an active member for sixty years. He also took great delight in caring for the clock high in the steeple of the Federated Church of Norfolk. He taught by example the value of integrity and hard work.

A memorial service is planned for the early spring at the Federated Church of Norfolk.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to the Federated Church of Norfolk; The Center For Eye Research & Education, 50 Staniford Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114; or the charity of your choice.

I am sorry to learn of your family sorrow. The death of a loved one is difficult. If I may, I'd like to share scripture found in your Bible that may help. Please take a moment to read John 6:40, 44 and Ps. 36:9.

Russ, you made a lifelong impression on me as your apprentice, you instilled the value of honesty and integrity as well as a sense of humor. One thing I will always remember, if the weather was beautiful we would have lunch outside and you would take a deep breath and say its enough to get you high. I would look right at you and immediately say old man youre crazy. So quite often when its nice outside I will take a deep breath and say to myself yah he is crazy Russ you were a true friend and always a gentleman.
