I am so sorry and shocked to learn of Kemp's passing. He and I were childhood friends when we lived on Old Bath Highway in Washington, NC. He always seemed like a brother to me. I will never forget how he was so patient in teaching me how to ride a bicycle. I know he must have been a great father. I know there are no words to help ease your grief, but try to hold onto the memories. He will live on forever in your heart. Please accept my sincere thoughts of sympathy. I will certainly keep you and the rest of his family in my prayers. May God bless you.

I am truly, truly saddened to hear of Kemp's passing. He was a thoughtful and caring friend to me, as I attended Washington High School with him. I also ran into him occasionally on East Carolina's campus, and he always greeted me with a smile and kind words. I will remember him fondly. Please except my deepest and sincerest condolences. Elizabeth Griffin

On hearing of the unexpected arrival of your new (canine) family member, I recalled these lyrics from "The Boxer" by Simon and Garfunkel: In the clearing stands a boxer And a fighter by his trade And he carries the reminders Of ev'ry glove that layed him down Or cut him till he cried out In his anger and his shame "I am leaving, I am leaving" But the fighter still remains. For me this means your new friend was sent as a reminder that Kemp will always be with you when you look into your heart. When my own father passed away, my immediate fear was that I would begin to forget him - who he really was. But 18 years later, I can still hear his voice, and see his eyes, and their expression, whenever I choose. Likewise, I believe Kemp will always be there, where you need him most, in your heart.

Joyth and Family, I am so saddened to hear of Kemps death. Just hold tight and cherish the memories of his life and know that God needed another special angel up in heaven. If there is anything I can do for any of you please let me know. I know that God has a special plan for Kemp, eventhough we may not understand what it is. I know that this is a difficult time for you all and you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

After I heard the news of Kemp's passing, I went home and reflected on the many ways that he touched my life, not only at work but in my walk with GOD also. I owe much to him for taking the time to invest in my life. I pray that the Lord will send his helper to the Edwards family that he may comfort them in their time of need. Kemp will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Rest in piece my friend, until we meet again heaven. David Parker Recreation Specialist FCI Jesup.

John 14:1, Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and perpare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Mrs. Terri Edwards and (son) Davis, Your husband Robert "Kemp" Edwards was a perfectionist. I've never had a supervisor that dotted all I's and crossed all T's and never left any of his work unfinished. You could never pull wool over his eyes. He was a very sharp and punctual individual. Mr. Edwards will be truely missed in our department. Words cannot even begin to express our sorrow. I pray that God will have grace and mercy on his soul. I will continue to pray that you and Davis take comfort in knowing an angel is watching over you and that angel is your husband Robert "Kemp" Edwards. May the love of those around you help you through the days ahead. Since, 2003, It's been a pleasure knowing your husband. Therefore, I must end this by saying, "Goodnight Mr. Edwards and I will see you in the morning." Peace, Prayers and Blessing. I will leave you with this, life is eternal, and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight. With warmest sympathy, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Crawford and family

Just today, in the East Carolina magazine, I learned about Kemp's death. Please accept my sincere sympathy. I was a graduate student at East Carolina, and Kemp was in one of the classes I taught within the Leisure Systems Studies curriculum. And he was one of my favorite and special students. Kemp was an outstanding young man with such a wonderful attitude. I was invited to attend his graduation ceremony at his parents' home and felt such warmth and hospitality within the circle of his family and friends. You are all in my thoughts and prayers as you go through such a difficult period.

I was so sad and shocked to hear about Kemp. I remember him well from my high school days at WHS. He always had a smile on his face and was so down to earth. We reconnected over the last few years over FB. I know he was so proud of Davis. I hope that your many memories of him will comfort you during this time. God bless!

May the Lord comfort his soul, his family and friends. We all miss you Mr. Edwards. Missy Lee Recreation Specialist-FCC Butner

I would just like to say that Kemp touched my life in many ways, first as a Supervisor and mentor, secondly and more importantly as a Christian Man and Friend Even though I hadn't seen him in quite a while, I can only hope that he knew that the time we spent together will never be forgotten and I loved him like a brother. Just know that there has been very few people in my life that I have had any greater respect for. Love Danny

Kemp and I grew up together in Washington at First Baptist Church and our mothers were great friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you all - Terri, Davis, and Miss Joyth Earl (that's what Mom taught me to call you when I was little!).

  • September 01, 2020

Dear Terri, my prayers for the coming weeks are that you and Davis find comfort in the many friends that surround you...that you find peace...that you find thanksgiving....that you find hope...and that you make new dreams. God is still on His throne and for that reason we can believe that all will be well. Many hugs, Dianne

As we go about our daily life there lives among us those truly unsung heroes we never see. Today I write in memory of one of those heroes. Kemp Edwards was a Federal Correctional Professional at the Federal Correctional Complex in Buckner, NC. His was a chosen profession not for the faint of heart or selected by many. Kemp was a fine corrections professional, one that always had your back in a world where that is important. Everyone knew he could be depended upon to when things went bad. In his work the hours pass slowly waiting for the few minutes that come quick and deadly. He spent his last shift looking after murderers, pedophiles, drug dealers that society chooses to lock away. As we travel in our daily live we never think of the ones that keep us safe. Yes we see the police and fire fighters doing their jobs, respecting their work. We thank the soldiers that protect our country honoring their service with parades and holidays. Well today I say thank you Officer Kemp Edwards for your service, your sacrifice, and your professionalism. You will be missed. To Kemps family thank you for sharing him with us, he was a true hero.

To The Edward's Family, You are and will continue to be in my prayers. I want you to know that Mr. Edwards will be missed and that I will always be thankful for the guidance and advice that he provided to me at work and in life.
