Obituary For Robert Huntley Crocker

Robert Huntley Crocker, 63, died Thursday, January 30, 2020 at his home.

Bob was born, raised, and resided in the City of Oaks his entire life. He lived and breathed Raleigh, North Carolina. After attending Sanderson High School, Bob learned his craft, alongside his brother, Stan, at his father's highly respected lawnmower repair shop, Crocker and Sons. After years of honing his skills, Bob moved on to become the head mechanic/equipment manager of several esteemed local golf courses including Lochmere Golf Club, Wakefield Plantation, and Carolina Country Club. Some of his proudest achievements were the two special assignments at the 2007 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Bob was even sent a personal letter of appreciation by the Commissioner of the PGA Tour, thanking him for his efforts in repairing the course after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Even after retirement, Bob became a local legend as the guy who could fix anything, and he did so in the comfort of his custom shop that he built in his backyard. Bob had many passions: from rock huntin' to Harleys, from the stars to the sea, from creating artistic masterpieces out of found objects to his latest and greatest passion, being Papa Bob. He was so proud of his only daughter for growing up into the successful, amazing woman he nurtured her to be. Proud that she had found the right person to help create his perfect best friend. Papa Bob loved his grandson, his daughter, and his entire family with every ounce of his being.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at The First Baptist Church, 99 N. Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Edythe Lynn Crocker; his father, Stanley Mitchener Crocker, Jr.; and sister, Donna Lynn Toms. Surviving are his daughter, Jodi Michelle Ardente; son-in-law, Adam Daniel Ardente; grandson, Roman Banks Ardente; and brother, Stanley Mitchener Crocker, III; all of Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the North Carolina Coastal Federation. https://www.nccoast.org/

I met Bob several years ago through a mutual friend. He was a very impressionable and down to earth guy. He had an awesome collection of geodes and artifacts. I was shocked to hear of his passing. I know he will be missed by many.R.I.P. Bob Crocker.

My dear friend Mike Celetti introduced me to Bob! We fondly nicknamed him Crocodile Dundee!! Bob repaired my used push mower 2 times. No charge the first time. Both times he picked up and delivered. He never waited for money. Honor system to bring to his home shop. I surprised him with a gift basket the 2nd time. Beer...fresh pulled pork and other goodies. He grinned from ear to ear! He loved women...respectfully so! He was a gentleman's earth angel who broke the mold of a man's man! RIP Crocodile Dundee!

Bobby was a sweet boy. A special boy growing up in the neighborhood--really cute! I hold fond memories of him in my heart, and I am sad at his passing. Dorothy Petty, formerly of Turnbridge Drive.
