Obituary For Robert Everett Darling

Robert Everett Darling, 82, of Raleigh, passed away April 13, 2023 after a brief illness.

Bob was born December 15, 1940 in Amsterdam, NY to the late Robert and Dorothy Darling (Andrews, later Dorothy Wittemeyer). He grew up in Fort Hunter, NY and graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1959. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1961-1965. He married MaryAnn Jacobs on June 18, 1967 and together they had two children, Edward Darling and Cheryl McNeil. Bob and MaryAnn resided in Fort Johnson, NY for most of their lives, and later spent time in the Virginia Beach, VA and Raleigh, NC areas. He worked at General Electric in Schenectady, NY as an electrician for 30 years.

Bob was a lifelong outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, gardening, and birdwatching. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved family. If you didn't find Bob enjoying the outdoors, you could find him enjoying a beer with friends at a local watering hole.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy, and his stepfather, Melvin Wittemeyer.

Bob is survived by his loving wife MaryAnn Darling of Raleigh; children, Edward (Aimee) Darling of Portsmouth, VA and Cheryl (Patrick) McNeil of Raleigh; sister, Jackie Francisco of Amsterdam, NY; grandchildren, Meagan (Michael) Gonyar of Charlottesville, VA, Alesha Darling of Yorktown, VA, Kiara (Mark) Lassiter of Peyton, CO, and USN PO3 Duncan McNeil, currently based in Goose Creek, SC; great-grandson Arthur Gonyar; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Capital Oaks Independent Living on Thursday, April 20th at 2PM.

The family is especially grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Duke Raleigh Hospital.
