----------
In loving memory of Richard Yoo, who departed from us suddenly at the age of 71, leaving a profound void in our hearts. He was a cherished member of our family known for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering presence. He passed away at his home in Wake Forest, NC on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
He was born in Cheonan, Korea on June 30, 1952, to the late Ji Soo Yoo and Soon Hee Shin. He found the love of his life, Kelly Yoo and married in December of 1977. He was blessed with two beautiful daughters in South Korea. Then he left all that he knew and courageously immigrated to America in July 1984 in search of a better future for his family. He initially immigrated to Durham, North Carolina, but later his endeavors led him to New Jersey for a period but eventually moved to Wake Forest, NC where he ultimately settled and raised his children.
His keen eye for business led him to become a successful entrepreneur and a pillar of society. Richard’s unwavering willingness and dedication to help others was unmatched. As the President of the Korean American Association of Raleigh, the President of The Carolinas Federation of Korean Associations, and a member of The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, he left his mark on the world and made it a better place.
His passion for life was infectious. Whether it was tending to his vegetable garden, perfecting his swing on the golf course, or savoring a perfect bowl of pho, he approached each moment of his life with enthusiasm and joy. He was a man of all trades and could fix anything with his own two hands. He enjoyed traveling with his family but especially loved spending time with his beloved 6 grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly Yoo; daughters Jennifer Moon and Lisa Won; sons-in-law Jason Moon and Ryan Won; 6 grandchildren, Isabella Moon, Austin Moon, Mason Moon, Clara Won, Kyle Won, and Cayla Won.
His legacy, warmth, and compassion will continue to inspire those who have had the privilege of knowing him. Forever in our hearts, Richard Yoo will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
In honoring Richard's wishes, he will be buried in Korea next to his parents.
