  I have known Rock for more years than I can remember. He was a wonderful man that i loved dearly. He was always a good friend. Loved his "Cigar Parties". It was a great way to get to know others in an intimate setting. Prayers for Laurel and the family. Love you all.

  Since I heard of Ricks passing, my mind keeps going to fond memories of time spent with him and Laurel. I was lucky to befriend them during my time in Raleigh and their home was always a place of warm welcome to me. I always had such fun sharing time and food and drinks with them both. Ricks smile was just infectious, you know? And his love for both Laurel and Sarah was so evident...he glowed with pride whenever he spoke of his special ladies. Sadly I lost touch the past few years, but I will always be thankful and cherish the friendship and good times Rick brought into my life. Laurel, know that I am thinking of you in this time.

  We did not know Rick as long as we wanted, but he sure was as fun person to hang out with! All his friends in Detroit will miss him a lot. Our community is not the same without him! He was a funny, and generous man. His friendship will b missed by many. R.I.P Rick! Detroit Joe

  My fishing buddy and little brother, both equally as important will be missed greatly. No matter where we were we always managed to visit and keep in touch. Richard always prized his annual "Koegels" Christmas gift when not living in Michigan. His "L" meant so much to him and every fish he caught was for her. When fishing was slow he would worry that he wouldn't catch one to take home to her. Our motto, when fishing on Sunday, "Better fishing and thinking of God, than sitting in church thinking of fishing. Brother, Jon and Mary Lou

  Rick was funny and thoughtful and wise and kind. He was a respected friend. I wish I'd taken more time to stay in touch. His cigar parties were one of the few social events I genuinely enjoyed and felt completely comfortable at. He will be deeply missed.

  When I was first hired at Fort Bragg Schools it was the day before school opened. The students who would be in my class were just told the teacher would be on the first day, no name. When I got to the school Mr Welch was there waiting to meet me! He was such a blessing to me. My husband was still in Germany and Mr Welch just jumped right in and helped me get the room ready for the students! Ill never forget that day. He really was a special dad helping a teacher he didnt know. I cant thank the Welch family enough for making my first year at Murray School so great.

  I am so sorry for your loss, and mine. The last time I saw Rick was in Fayetteville.. He had texted and asked me to meet him for lunch. It just lifted my heart to be invited, to know that he thought of me. He was so sweet. We had a lovely visit.
