Obituary For Richard Charles Giglio

With a heavy heart we share Richard (Rick) C. Giglio, age 86, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 21, 2025. He was born in Revere, Massachusetts, on April 21, 1938, son of the late Gerald and Olivia Giglio, predeceased by his older brother, Jerry.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne Giglio, his children, Janet (Thomas) Rule, Diane (Anthony) Hoskins, Rick Jr. (Wendy) Giglio and Suzanne (Bill) Schafers; his 6 grandchildren, Scott Hoskins, David (Shelby) Hoskins, Michael Schafers, Jack Giglio, Kelly Schafers, and Katie Giglio and one great-grandchild; Porter Hoskins, who will carry his spirit forward. Also mourning his loss are cousins, nieces and nephews.

Rick's journey began as the first in his family to go to college. On an athletic scholarship, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from American International College in Springfield, MA leading him to a successful career. He most loved his time in sales and marketing in the Pharmaceutical Industry and his career advancement took him and his family across 6 states in 25 years. As an established sales executive he later moved into chemical sales and enjoyed the challenges of learning and excelling in a new industry. His professional achievements, however, were only one part of the man he became.

In a celebration of love that spanned more than 64 years, Rick married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Joanne Liston, on November 5, 1960. Together, they built a beautiful family and lasting memories.

Rick loved a good story and enjoyed telling them even when he laughed before he could get to the punchline. He had a competitive spirit and his strength, determination and sense of humor were admired by those who loved him. He spent many hours on the golf course and loved everything about the game. He was often the life of a party but could also spend many solitary hours enjoying computer games by himself.

As we remember Rick Giglio, we celebrate a life well-lived, a devoted family man, who leaves behind indelible memories in the hearts of those who loved him. His legacy of love and laughter and the lessons he imparted will forever guide and inspire his family and friends. He made them laugh, could comfort them in sadness and was always a solid person, that could be counted on when needed.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 11 at 11 am, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church, 11401 Leesville Rd, Raleigh, NC 27613 Interment will be at the columbarium at the church.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Rick’s name. https://www.stjude.org/

Spending Christmas Eve with the Hoskins family has always been a blessing for myself and our family. Rick always greeted us with kindness, a warm hug and a sarcastic comment. The time her gave our daughter a hard time about her ripped jeans still makes me laugh. I can hear your deep laugh as I type this. You will be missed Rick. Thank you for making us a small part of your incredible family. Love, Nancy & Greg Georges

We met Rick and Joanne playing Bridge together in a couples' group. Rick was always very fun to be around and a good Bridge player too. We're so sad to lose him and will miss him and think of him often. Blessings to Joanne and your family.

All of us in the Wild Oates of Wildwood Golf course will miss Rick. If he signed up to play he always showed up to play. Sometimes just in time. "That darn traffic on 540 was terrible!" he would shout as he grabbed a cart and headed to the first tee. There should be lest traffic in heaven! Mick Repanich.

You encouraged my competetive spirit and did not let me win just because I was a kid. I will never forgot the first time I beat you in scrabble. It was one of my proudest moments and I did not do it humbly but you were okay with it and it made you laugh. D
