Obituary For Ray Thomas Mohler
Ray Thomas Mohler, Jr. of Cary, North Carolina passed away on January 11, 2017 at the age of 77. He is survived by his loving wife Freddie of 53 years, his two daughters, Janet Eason and husband Brian, Kelly Nelson and husband Tom, four grandchildren, Danielle Eason (23), Alex Eason (20), Jake Nelson (16) and Gavin Nelson (14). Also, is survived by his brother Paul Mohler. He is predeceased by his parents Ray Thomas Mohler and Lanelle Palvado Mohler of Memphis, TN.
Ray had a long hard fight over the past 6 years from esophageal cancer. Ray attended Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, TN and Memphis State University. He served 4 years in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Louisiana and Alaska. He had a long sales career in the building materials industry in sales and business development and retired from James Hardie Building Products.
Ray had a true love of sports! He was an all star athlete in high school with a special gift in baseball. He continued playing in baseball leagues as a young adult. He was an avid golfer, loved snow skiing and enjoyed many trips out west. Dad was a huge NC State Wolfpack fan, but loved all ACC sports! Ray’s most respected and remarkable strengths were his deep faith, love of life, love of family & friends and involvement in church and the community.
Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the physicians and medical staff for the excellent treatment and medical care he received at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 16th, 2017 from 4 – 6pm. A Funeral service will immediately follow starting at 6pm at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh, NC 27615. A private burial will take place at a later date in Jacksonville, NC at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
