Obituary For Randy Oberrath

Randy Oberrath, 73, of Durham, NC peacefully transitioned into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024. He was born on May 21,1950 in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late Glenn and Carol Oberrath. He was a graduate of Charis Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO. He is survived by his wife Melissa, his 3 sons Zak, Grant, Jordan (and wife Drew), and his stepdaughter Amy Swider. He has 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was also survived by his brother David Oberrath (and wife Nancy), along with his sister Elena Jones (and husband Blair).

Randy married his wife Melissa on August 10, 1991, and they enjoyed 32 years together. Their greatest passions were knowing the Lord Jesus Christ, caring for their family, and co-pastoring Kingdom Life Church International together. They also taught at Charis Bible College Raleigh/Durham for several years and founded and ran The Freedom and Hope Center which served the poor and homeless in Durham, NC. Together they led Charis students on 5 mission trips to Colombia, South America and one trip to Belize. Their greatest satisfaction came from watching people’s lives being transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Randy was a godly man in the truest sense of the word. He walked in the deep convictions of his faith in every area of his life. He was kind and compassionate to everyone – from family and friends to strangers on the street. He loved investing in people, sharing deep insights from the Bible and encouraging them in their walk with Jesus Christ. He was tireless and selfless in the ways he served and loved others. The Word of God and his relationship with the Lord were the compass of his life. They sustained him every day, impacted everything he did and led him safely into the arms of Jesus. He truly heard the words, “Well done, My good and faithful son”. He will be deeply missed by us all.

We have the fondest memories of sharing a couple meals with Pastors Randy and Melissa when we were new to the church. We will never forget the warmth, wisdom, and humor shared with us in Randy's testimony to Jesus and what the Word of God can do for you. We never felt such natural affection sprinkled with humor, while discussing life's most important issues. Pastor Randy was such a blessing to us! We thought this poem summed up Pastor Randy perfectly: The Impact Of One Life When a stone is dropped into a lake, it's impact leaves behind a series of ripples that broaden and reach across the water. In the same way, the impact of one life lived for Christ will leave behind an influence for good that will touch the lives of many others. - Roy Lessin His ripple impacted our lives in such a short period of time, yet its effect will last forever! All our love, Sean & Ally Ruehl

On behalf of the Ojutiku family, we appreciate Pastor Randy, a selfless and humble man of God. He was there when we were going through our own trials. A very solid Bible teacher, diligent with handling the word of the Lord. We thank the Lord Jesus Christ for saving him and now he is in the presence of His beloved Lord and Savior. We lift up his wife Pastor Melissa and his family and ask the Lord to bring comfort and strength during this time.

Pastor Randy was one of the most Christ-like and loving men I knew. He always had a smile on his face and an encouraging word to grow spirituality. The only consolation I have is to know he is present with the Lord.
