Obituary For Philip Newton Latimer

Philip Newton Latimer, 75, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 in Raleigh NC at his home surrounded by family and special caregivers.

Born July 5, 1940 in Atlanta GA, he was the son of Joel and Bertine Latimer. After graduating from Georgia State University, he flew helicopters and Chinooks in Korea and Vietnam as a Captain in the United States Army. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart. After serving in Vietnam, he joined the Army National Guard and also pursued a successful career in industrial sales as a civilian.

He enjoyed beach music and dancing, golfing, boating, fishing, time spent with friends, family and his beloved dog Katie. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his sense of humor and his ability to make everyone laugh and smile. He was a constant source of strength, love and care,and a selfless provider for his wife and family.

He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Beverly, their three children and families: (Michael) Collins married to Josie, (Philip) Kent and Kim Tutor, Kelly (Latimer) and Stan Micek and three grandchildren Ashley, Brett and Tyler Micek; his older brother Robert Latimer; his twin sister Marilea Butler and many close friends.

The funeral service and subsequent inurnment will be held on Monday, August 24th, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the St. Mary of the Angels Chapel at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 11401 Leesville Rd., Raleigh NC 27613. A simple reception will follow.

The family greatly appreciates the tremendous love and support of their family, friends, neighbors, caregivers and Transitions HospiceCare of Wake County during Philip's battle with cancer.

    So many great memories of our times with Philip and Beverly mostly at some beach somewhere....Duck, Atlantic Beach,,Myrtle Beach with kids. Later, cruise in Western Caribbean, Catalina Island, Destin Fla. So many good times. We will always remember Philip's great smile, fun loving spirit and great sense of humor.     Beverly and family, just saw on the internet where Philip passed. Mindy, Melissa and I have such wonderful memories of our days as neighbors. We have thought of you and your family often.
