Obituary For Peter Abwajo Wando
Mr. Peter Abwajo Wando, died peacefully in Raleigh, NC at Rex Hospital ICU on October 12, 2016 at the age of 79 years old.
Peter Abwajo Wando was born on February 21, 1937 in Kisumu, Kenya to Tekla Awuonda and Cleophus Wando.
He graduated from University of Nairobi in 1963 with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, and a MBA from LSE in London, UK in 1965. He married Anne Wando in 1973.
After moving to Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Wando began working for Polaroid Corporation as an accountant.
Over period of time, the couple was blessed with their 3 children Edward, Suzzanne and PJ Wando, and began, raising them while expanding his accounting business.
The family lived in Boston for a while then moved to South Carolina and later on decided to settle in North Carolina where he has lived with his family ever since.
Mr. Peter Wando is survived by his loving wife Anne Wando and family members, Edward Wando, Suzzanne Wando, PJ Wando, grandchildren, Karim Wando, Kasia Wando, Leilani Wando, and Soraya Wando, his nephews David Wando, Kevin Osee, Bonny Osee, Eyvonne Osee, Joy Osee, his cousin Lorna Osee, the Nysaio family, and his extended Kenyan children, Carol Wando, Kennedy Wando and Jimmy Ayieko, and his living brothers Delmas, and Genelly. His deceased brother Brown also died this year.
His children remember him as a driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Mr. Wando was accomplished in accounting and often helped others in his community. He was a generous and dedicated individual who loved helping and advising others and who was passionate about education and encouraged everyone who came his way to get a sound education.
He was an active and dedicated member of the Umoja SDA and often volunteered at various community celebrations.
The funeral service is scheduled for Thursday October 20, 2016, promptly at 1:00 pm at Renaissance Funeral home located on 7615 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, NC 27615, with a viewing Prior from 11: 00 am to 1:00 pm.Immediately after, we will proceed to the burial grounds at Raleigh Memorial gardens at 3:30pm, with a reception to follow at the family residence 5201 Cherrywood Court. Pastor Enoch Omosa will officiate the ceremony.
Everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Wando’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the family.

The family would like to thank all the Hospital staff, caregivers, family members and friends for their efforts, care, and dedication.

Since you fell sick and unable to do what you did best enlightening the Kenyan community, we knew the main bulb was not working well. We were less lite.Now with it completely off we are only left with good memories. He is gone just like everyone will....but at least he taught us to unite & to love each other as a community and people of one nation -Kenya. Many years have passed since I talked with Peter almost every day to not having a conversation with him in years (but thought of him often). But what has not passed is the feeling that I had when in his presence and the knowledge that he imparted regarding entrepreneurship, growing up in the Motherland, and just being a friend who was committed to helping another minority entrepreneur find success. Peter gave unselfishly to me and other small minority businesses in Greenville, SC...he has left a legacy every place that he has traveled...may he be welcomed into the hereafter by the Ancestors and celebrated for a life well-lived and a job well-done! Uncle Wando was a very cheerful, loving and a man full of life and integrity. He touched lives for all those who knew him and were blessed to be around him. My heart goes out to his loving wife, my aunt Anne Wando and my cousins,nieces and nephews. The Osee family is with you in prayer. May the Lord comfort you all through this grieving process. Babu wando was a quiet man, But his silence could speak volumes. The warmth of his gaze said, "I love you." The strength of his hugs said, "I will keep you safe." The gentleness of his hands said, "You're precious to me." His nod of approval for a job well done said, "I respect you."
